Right on, I ***umed it didn't have anything. He did mention drivetrain updates so I guess I ***umed that meant engine too. Edit: I went back and watched the video in Ryan's for sale ad and sounds like there were a lot of cool y-block engine parts included ready to go back together.
Wow, that's Awesome! I'm pretty sure that there may be a few suggestions coming your way, but it's Your car now. No Pressure!! ,
Some of my dirty laundry being aired... Please ignore the speaker cutouts in the door cards. I was 18. :/
If you didn’t have speaker cut outs when you were 18 I would seriously question your child hood and development. Dan
I can post pictures of the dash I cut up for a modern stereo in my ‘65 Valiant I drove at that age, if it would make you feel better.
I worked on finishing the steering column on Sunday. Turned new bronze bushings for each end and filled the holes for the lock and the 35 column drop was in a different position. A few have asked about drivetrain. I know it's a tough subject. I have a spare 425 Buick around and a really cool Desoto hemi, and about a half completed Y block project motor that still needs many parts. I have 3 considerations I need to make happen. 1 Time, I want this car on the road in 1 year. 2 Cashflow, I have two kids in college and it takes some of my extra. 3 reliability. I need this car to make it to many far events in the next few years. Old North State, The Hot Rod Revival, Bonneville, LA Roadster show, and of course my favorite The Gathering at the ROC. So with all that in mind . I have nice little small block Chevy that will fall in there and hopefully run reliably and get me to all destinations. I know it's not for everyone and my other Nailhead is my second choice. The Ford TKO will remain and I have bought the correct Bellhousing to adapt to the Chevy motor. I am using a Tri power intake with three Stromburgs. I just got some new Nystrom scoops this week and have mocked it up.
The stainless firewall that Ryan awesomely crafted will stay. I think it looks really cool with the carbs and scoops in the reflection. The holes will be figured out and Filled accordingly. The sweet speakers Ryan will be eliminated and a new aluminum door and kick panels will be made before interior. My thought is to put a rubber mat in initially, get the headliner and seat covered and finish the rest when I can.
Having gone the unusual engine route a couple times and knowing how much more expensive that route is, I'm totally with you on the SBC choice. The tripower mockup looks great too. You're resurrecting the car your way, I respect that.
Well, a small block Chevvie will fit right in that thing, I've seen one in there. Let your conscience be your guide and you will be just fine. Even up on blocks, that car is striking. I love it like it were my own. -Abone.
First, congrats. Always liked 38s and this one is special. Now as for the engine choices, you can see what I drive but TBH the Chevy makes more sense than anything else you have and, at 65, I understand the meaning of "life's too short". I'd get it running and going with the SBC first and if time, money and desire are there think about the other options... Just my (€!) 2c...
Someone correct me, didn't this HAMB heirloom spend considerable time with a SBC in it? Let's make a pact, nobody does the cliché SBC bashing as it relates to this car. Who's in?
The chrome compressor and alternator came with the complete Zoops serpentine setup for small block Fords....but it appears to be just a 120 amp 3 wire GM alternator.
