Projects 41 Ford pickup finally got it home and pictures pictures

Yeah, thanks for pointing this out, Ryan. One of these pickups has been high on my to do list for many years. I sold the 46 cab I had, but digging into a thread like this lights that old fire in my *** again. The bill threads are my favorite part of the HAMB.

 

I started reading this thread per Ryan’s suggestion. I’ll be following.

I put the stock seat and riser in my pickup, but I have a Wise Guys. Where did you get the adjustable risers? I saw some on the auction site but just wasn’t sure. Thanks!

I'm going to pickup this thread. I apologize for the big gap.. June 3rd last post. Wow.
I finally found a guy that would do the framing on my garage to raise the ceiling to 12 ft. I've been looking for almost 3 years; that activity took up most of my time and a large chunk or cash.
Just in the last 2 days, I was able to look at the truck. I stumbled onto a solution for the shifter boot and got my seat back from Wise Guys.

Supposed to be dark blue, but highlights look grayesh.
I couldn't find or figure out how to make a boot. Yesterday it was raining and I was looking for what to reorganize next and I spotted the old nasty boot that came with the truck and picked it up. I was headed for the trash can and wondered if the hole in it would slide over the stick. I tried it and failed. What if I took the upper shaft off; would it slide over the stub? It did and the divot in the rubber at the top provides visual cover for the bottom of the top part of the shifter.

Maybe even CHROME it......Let's not get carried away
I have some stainless to finish the outside edges. the whole floor will be satin black then heat barrier and rubber mat.

I'll try to get a couple of pix of the remodeled "paint" room. I'm lining the ceiling with 1/4 thick OSB; It's just about strong enough to support the R19 insulation.
I'm headed out to the garage to work on the trans cover. I can't handle the OSB by myself and I'm hoping my son can help out today.

Here are the pix or the remodel.
I used the lift for a scaffold.
I'm test fitting the trans cover on the truck. I found some material for a sealer and added that to ensure everything is in place. I should have pix today.

 

Ingenuity is the mother of invention. When I built my two-story garage, I bought 2X6's to use as scaffold with two levels. When I had the 12" block laid up 7 courses, I used the 4' level then went up another 7 courses and utilized the top level which was 8' high. Laid up another 7 courses for 12' high clearance in the lower level. Eventually used the 2X6's for the final framing lumber on top of 4' high 8" block walls.

 

I can't tell if it's ingenuity or desperation in my case, but I'm working on the old truck again so everything is good.

Thanks for the pictures Joel! Those 4 post lifts come in handy for more than lifting cars. One of my car club buddies used his for a giant banquet table at one of our club dinners. Pretty hard to p*** the beans and tatters straight across the table though

 

Yes it is, Sam. I used 2x4s and 1/2 in OSB to fill in the gap. I also used some 11/4 to shim the center level with the reamps. Once you get used to the squeeking and creaking you're ok.
Have you been out and about in you convt.? It's pretty rainy here.

 

So you raised the roof, not the walls? Was that easier, less expensive to do?

 

Yes the weather has been perfect for convertible driving. I drove it to a small gathering of hoodlums Saturday just 4 miles away . Everything was working fine. I will get it aligned Monday morning. Then I plan to put some miles it.

 

I added 38 1/2 inches to the existing walls for a ceiling height of 12 Ft 1 in. total.

 

I ***embled the shifter with boot today. Finally. I thought I could stack the lower seal followed by the boot and then add the SS retainer ring. NO ! I had to ***emble everything to the cover and make a one piece unit.
The components ; boot, rubber trans tower seal ( cut from a semi truck mudflap) and the 10ga. SS retaining ring. 10-24 flathead screws fit in the countersinked holes with threaded inserts.
The tight seal on the tower should help noise and heat while driving.
Done I think, except paint and polish. Maybe I'll get the stick chromed down the road.

 

Well done Joel. I know how tricky these little things can be, but you are making it look easy.

 

Looks like it was made for that truck ! Better than factory stuff! That should be air tight. Well done!
