I ran across this old photo from the Southeast Deuce show that was held in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee several years ago ( 2010) and I believe this car belonged to Allen Johnson but the louvered hood top is amazing work and I have been told HAMBer Anthony Myrick had something to do with it.
had my 49 Chevrolet hood done by "Larry Louver" in the 80's. 75 cents each the dash louvers came from the hood of my HOT ROD Datsun pickup (also done by Larry Louver) after the hood flew open on the road and got bent
Those were cut and stamped by Alan Johnson and his wife, Angie. The process flattened out the hood top. I hammered the contour in the louvres. Here is the hood naked. Genuine Ford hood and grill shell. Tony Inman (hope I spelled that correct) gave me a power hammer lesson on the hood sides. Each end was cut to fit and a strip added to keep the hem. Zero body filler was used on the hood and grill shell. I stretched the hood side to fit the frame better and removed the hold down indentations. Alan made the cool tiny louvre with the belt hold down. He purchased a leather kit for this project and was super excited how it turned out. ps. Those radius rods are the prototypes for the ones they sell now.
Mines serviceable or adequate. Alan’s welding on sheet metal. That’s amazing. I never had to grind it. Hammer/dolly then sand with 80 on a DA.
I Love everything about louvers except for laying them out , punching them, SANDING them and buffing them. I punched 499 louvers in this A coupe I made this trunk lid skin and louvered it for my buddy's 33 Louvered this real steel 32 rumble lid. Stressed me out!! Made this hood top and all the louvers in my buddy's A coupe Put some louvers in the Model A shell for the T coupe I'm building
