What kind of parts do you need? There's a few parts sources for these trucks. They were made from 48-53, and also known as "B-Series" or "Pilot House" trucks. My good friend has a '50 B2 that we're building. It's channelled over the frame rails, front & rear axles are flipped, and runs a twin carbed 218ci Flat Six & 3spd. Still a long way to go, but it's coming along an should be driving by spring. www.dodgepilothouseclub.org www.pilot-house.com
Thanks. I dont know yet I am going to look at it this weekend, but I havent been able to find any info on this truck. I didnt want to pass it up so I figured someone here would know. Again thanks. Do you have any pics of the 50? And how hard was it to channel?
I don't have any pics of it right now. I have some on a cd somewhere during the suspension mods and motor swap. It was easy to channel by cutting away the floor bracing and 2 sections of the rear of the cab. New fender, core support, running board mounts had to be made, along with flipping the radiator mount. The bed floow was gutted and some 1x2 bracing welded in. Still working on pedals, shifter, throttle, & steering column right now. I'll get some pics sometime soon.
Here's a pic. of my 50 Dodge. I've had it a few years and have found some sources for parts. When I get home tonight I'll get you some more info. Jay
There's a forum for the Pilot House trucks. Don't have the url handy, but google "Pilot House Trucks Forum" and you'll find it.
http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/index.php should get you to the fourms page. There is some good stuff there. If your looking for stuff like patch panels and repo body parts there not out there. The thing I've found for these trucks so far is a set of fiberglass fenders. So if the truck your looking at isn't nice and solid be ready to make some parts. Here a bad pic of my truck.
Here is a couple of pictures of my 50 (so says the title ) that is mounted on an 80 Dodge 4x4 chassis. I'm also throwing up a couple pictures of my 54 Dodge pickup that was clipped with a Volare clip. Two very different builds with pretty similar trucks, both still all Mopar. Gene
I got a 48.. version of the woodie. Texas, any pic of your buddies.. There are a few places like Roberts who sell parts but not alot. I have guys tell me its easier to buy parts trucks (they are usually cheap) to get the parts you need. I have been watching ebay over the past two months and there's a lot of stuff out there depending on what you need. I am looking for a set of straight(non dented) 48-50 grill bars like in the pic above. There is a fully polished set of ebay right now but the price just shot up (and with the new bidder name method you dont know who is bidding the prices up.. but it jumped like $500 in one bid...)
It kool lookin. I am going to have to make some door skins and patch one front fender so far. I'm also going to need a tune up kit for it.
Here's one of the truck the day we tore into it. Just plucked the 218 Flat Sixer out of FatLucky's old Dodge Pickup Chassis we used as a donor for the '50... All that's really left on the truck now is some floor work and finishing the body mounts. Gotta plumb the brakes & fuel, wire up the lights and ignition, some bodywork/paint, and new rubber & glass. The truck is now channelled and both axles flipped. Has 15"x6" Steelies with radials, no bags, and the front sheetmetal is about 4" from the garage floor. As for pics, thats all I've got right now...was too busy working to take pics. I'll snap some new updated pics next weekend after my buddy gets back from Turkey Day Vacation in Georgia...
what type of brake parts are you needing. I am geting ready to take all my factory stuff off. send me a PM if you need specific parts. (not sure of my condition just yet).
When I picked mine up I took a Ford 5x4 1/2 wheel and a Chevy 5x4 3/4 both didn't fit. My trailer spare fit it and I think thats a 5x5.
The 50s Dodge 1/2 ton trucks have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern (or maybe it was a 5 on 5 1/2" bolt pattern, was deffinately NOT a 4 1/2 or 4 3/4 pattern) My 54 had adapters that allowed a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern wheel to bolt on. Gene
Got it to the house right before the winter storm hit st.louis. I found out that it is a B3C (3/4 ton) and that it is pretty solid. I will post some pics soon
congrats on the new project. If you are wanting to convert to half ton susp..(factory stuff). I am going to have most of it available (not sure what is different other them maybe spring rates). I do not plan to start messing with mine until after Xmas.. but once i start I am going to have plenty of stock susp parts
Hi, I just picked up one this week. It came with a bunch of extra parts, what are you looking for? I have fuel pumps, some carbs, a couple of transmissions generator, etc. Let me know and let's see what we can do here. Jon
Dude, this tread is from 2006. He probably already got whatever he needed several years ago. You newbees need to look at the dates of these treads. Gene
I have actually had a lot of luck with NAPA lol. Rockauto.com seems to have a good amount of parts for the pilothouse.
