I was in Austin for the State Volleyball tournament and had a great time ( caught a great show thur at the Continental club ) until I went out to my truck ( 98 chev)sat morning and discovered some ***hat tried to steal it the night before. Tried the old pry the handle up with a screwdriver trick, dumb*** couldn't even do it right. If that wasn't bad enough, when I called the Austin PD to come out and investigate the lady says " I can take the report over the phone." I said " Don't you wanna at least dust for prints or some thing in case their in the system?" She says " No we don't usually do that" I understand that they probably get a couple hundred of these a night but does that make it acceptable to not even attempt to find the *******s? Or try to get some evidence in case they show up in the system later? I was more pissed about that than it getting broken into. And I'm sure if I had caught him that after the thorough*** whoopin that would have occured they would have givin me some kinda **** about ***aulting him. I ***ure you it would have been alot better than a simple ***ault. Sorry I'm rambling but I just had to vent. I guess if your in Austin and see something you like, feel free to take it cause nobody really gives a ****.

some dirtbag kicked in my grandma's door the other day, between 3 and 4. i was slightly up the road at my place, packaging some shifter knobs to ship when it happened. she was gone for 45 minutes... they couldn't find anything because we're pretty plain farmer folks. all sorts of **** opened that they could have gotten prints from and the sheriff didn't do ****. you'd think it'd be in everyone's interest to at least try and run a check... oh well. gives me one more reason to pack heat on the farm.

My car was broken into when I lived in San Diego... I couldn't even get the PD to take a report over the phone, much less come out to look at it. They basically told me to drive it to them, if I wanted them to do anything, but they acted like it was pointless.

I called the cops to report a murder in front of my house, and they said they were busy with a "big robbery investigation" at dunkin donuts.

the key to getting a police report taken when something gets stolen is to tell them they stole your gun. then a real police officer will come out and take fingerprints and everything. of course it does no good, but at least they come out.

Our neighbor got broken into, and the police told them that theives usually break in 2-3 months latter to steal the new stuff.
So sue enough on the way back home shw caught the theives loading up stuff during the day. She happened to have her camera with and photgraphed them, van and lisc plate.
She followed them into the next county and photographed them unloading their stuff into a house .

You guessed it the police did nothing in either county.
The neighbors got so mad they sold their house and moved out of state.

this is standard in lots of places, not just Austin. When I was younger there was a shooting in front of our house in Sacramento, the 911 operator asked," is there anyone shot that you know of?" I told her we didn't see anyone hit and they said then there's no reason for dispatching an officer to the scene.....

and the police wonder why no one likes them

  11. its a sad state of affairs in the world we live in now....exactly the same over here in the UK.....theres more crime than actual police to investigate it....we cant carry firearms (legally) over here

  12. Could solve a lot of problems if you could just legally shoot people trying to steal your stuff... isn't that legal in Texas?

I'm amazed that with photos and an open shut case they couldn't get the cops to do anything. Of course, here locally a villiage cop just got suspended himself for padding his timesheet, having subordinates clock him out after he'd already gone home - some of them are as bad as the criminals they're supposed to be arresting.

I believe car theft is a misdeameanor in Texas. yes you can use deadly force if someone is taking something that you think you will never recover. Police officer read me that out of his book. Does not have to be in your house or after dark either. I had my truck broke into a couple of times and the offficers came out. They read me the law and told me to interpretate[mis-spelled} it. After the second time I wrote up a little poster and put it on a stake next to my truck."Let me catch you you *******s and I'll shoot". No more problems. I think it was the neighbor kid.TP

Polk County, Florida is the same way. I had a truck stolen out of my driveway, and they took a report but told me not to hold my breath.
That would have been the end of it, except that I had done some custom stuff to the truck, and everything I did to it was in several different magazine articles.
One day a couple months later, I'm on I-4 in Orlando, look in my rear view mirror and see my modified bumper cover on an Emerald Green Dodge Dakota--same color as mine. Get next to him, and he's got Sport fender flares and my one-off Weld Racing Wheels. Get behind him, and it's my roll pan.
Follow him to gas station, look to see if the flares were modified like mine were (yes), roll pan cut for hidden trailer hitch (yes), and the sidewall on the rear tires slightly cut from the fender lip before I rolled the lips and trimmed the flares (yes). Talked to the cop inside getting a donut, she takes a report and says "Unless you have a copy of the theft report, it's your word against his right now." You can't check your computer system with Polk County and get the info? "Polk County doesn't share information with us." Excuse me?

Took the tag number from the truck with my gear on it, the officer's name and the report number, and gave it to the investigator in Polk County.

    Nothing happened.

A month later, I see the ***wipe on the road again, and this time I take down his tag number. (Didn't have a cell phone at the time). Called the investigator again, gave him the tag number, and the ****er tells me that since the insurance company paid me off, I'm no longer the victim, the insurance company is. And since they aren't going to follow up on it, he isn't either! Said he had too many other investigations going.

And then there's the time I got hit by a drunk while crossing the street in Memphis...the guy drove away after I got up and started talking to him. The cop said that since I declined to go to the hospital (even though I had a helluva limp), and if there was any damage it was only to the driver's car, so there wasn't really a crime and they weren't interested in finding the guy.

Never rely on the government to defend or protect you or your property.
    Ever.

The wheels of justice move slowly if at all.

We have a guy in our county that robbed his own business and then paid someone to steal his car and dump it out of state for the insurance. The cops caught the guy who stole the car, he admitted it. AND now for the closer, the insurance co knows he did it, the cops know he did it, and no one wants to take it to court. The ins co says it costs too much to prosecute($15k loss), and the DA ( that dumb *** for those of you who don't know it) doesnot want to lose a case with a witness whose integrity is in question. Go fukin' figure.

Anyways, I am not happy to hear about Austin as I will be there for Thanksgiving. Got to look out for my **** and feel free to load up someone else's **** I guess.

One good thing about here in Alabama, they just p***ed a law recently stating that if someone breaks into your home and you shoot them, they "if they survive" or their family cannot file a civil law suit against you. So if you can beat the DA charges you home free.

As much as I hate burglars and thieves - and believe me right now you really have no idea - having your late model broken into at a volleyball tournament really isn't on topic. Sorry it happened and all but...
