Been piecing together and heavily modifying a 1954 chevy 5-window pick-up over the last year. I still have what seems like a long way to go. I got a little distracted with all the custom work, which was most of the fun. But, I have hit a wall and now I am at the point where I am wondering if I should sell or trade. My buddy Gl***guy has already given the pep talk but it boils down to not having the time. I have attached a couple of pics. Top is chopped 5 and almost 6 in front. Has vette front IFS and 10 bolt in rear. The coolest mod has got to be the Bel Air dash. Should I just hang on or should I move on? I am a little impatient.

hang in man!! that thing is awesome and you obviously have spent a lot of time and thought on it. you're further by a TON than a lot of people are (like me) who have been working on their rods for years:p

  3. HANG ON!! You've got a great looking truck on your hands and from what I can see, a lot of the hard work is done. The custom stuff is the "head scratching do it three times to get it right" stuff.

Take a break from it and do something else you like. Then come back after the holidays.

If you don't finish it, it will always be in the back of your mind. The one that got away and all that.

You ain't gonna let a green midget get in your head, are ya?

  5. You have to finish that truck. If you do decide to sell I can tell you it would look good in my garage!!!!!!!

Hold on to it, take a break for a month or so and come back to it when you are motivated to work on it. It looks awsome what you have done so far. I think that we all know how you feel, get all of the cool stuff done and when it comes down the the detail stuff you get burnt out. Just take a break and come back to it later. You will be glad you kept it when you are cruisn it pretty soon.

Take a break from it, the fire will return. I believe you should always have more than one project going, at least thats what I keep telling myself.

Thanks for all the wisdom and encouragement. I think that I will cover it up for a bit so that when I have time again to work on it, I can unwrap it and appreciate all the work that I have done.

    Thanks again.

If you don't have the time....put it away and get something that you can drive now (or that does not need much).

You what also helps is having someone help you for a while to get you over the HUMP.

Plus I wouldn't sell it. I hit the same wall and sold my project, now I'm bummed about it. I even asked to buy it back.

By the way, nice looking truck. It's going to look great finished.

keep it. put a cover on it and don't think about it for a while. you'll regret selling it and you won't be able to get Good $$ for is as a "project" anyway.

I'm going on 3.5years with mine - simple because I can ONLY work on it on Saturdays. I've hit road blocks with it and I'm @ one right now with it - it is sitting in the shop covered up until I feel like working on it again. I can say it is tough. But I heard there might be an EastCoast HAMB Event;) so I think it is time to pull the cover back off.

Hey Man , I find that haveing more than one project going at one time helps get my mind off of one thing all the time. And the part about 'not having enough time', well, I consider the time in the shop as my R&R time and NOT just more work I have to do. Great truck and Keep Hammering. GOOD LUCK!!!

Set it aside and come back to it later...don't burn yourself out on it now. A few months from now that project will look brand new and you'll thank yourself for keeping it!

So you decide to sell it, then see it again on the cover of R&C next year with some guy you've never standing next to it. How will you feel then? It's a pretty special truck, so walk away for awhile and work on something else, then come back when you get motivated again. Maybe a month, maybe a year, but don't let it go yet.

This is what buddys are for. Make the rounds, see what the other guys are working on and pitch in a bit helping them if they're at a choke point. Taking a break to remove the pressures, drinking the other guys beer and getting a different perspective from working on something new is usually all it takes to get you fired up enough to get back to your own soon enough.

A project is like a good stew. Sometimes you just have to turn down the heat and let the juices simmer and mingle for a while.

Sell it. if you are tired of it and want to do something else, Do it.!
Life is too short to do a job you no longer enjoy. Most likely you are a "process" guy. Its the process of doing the work rather than the finished product that turns you on... I gotta tell you though - its a nice truck with great proportions...Someone will really enjoy it...

  22. That truck is cool witha capital K and OOL! I think you oughta keep it and finish it to the best of your abilities as time allows.

Been there and I was talking to my dear old Dad whom I respect greatly and he said, " When it stops being fun do something else. "
I sold my pro street/race car and bought my stock 30 model A and never looked back. No regrets.

    Your stupid if you sell it. Yes , I said it! So what! S T O O P I D!

It took me 5 years (family, Army Deployment, Job, you get the idea) to get my 35 running and I have just bene driving it since and still havent done any back fenders for it.

Keep it. Take a break from it if you need, But youll regret it every single time you see ANY cool vehicle if you sell it.

That is a bad motha, you have to keep it! You are at the point that I reach with every car I have ever built. Trust me it is well worth it when you turn the key for the first time and drive it around the block. Just don’t forget with all the excitement to remove all tools from the truck for the test drive.

ONE YEAR,,,and your burnt out! ,,,,man, most projects are just getting started in one year ans some are finished in less time than that.

My wagon project has streched into the 4th. year,,,,,but hopefully it will be finished by oct. 2007.

Hang on to it even if you have to push it over in the corner and cover it up a while! HRP

I know the feeling---I went thru a divorce in 1997--had my 29 roadster in pieces, ready to start on it.Rented a storage locker and put all my car **** in it.Fast forward 5 YEARS! Got remarried--rented a small shop--and could only work 1--maybe 2 evenings a week--at best.I can't count the times I wanted to sell it all and just relax--but I never gave up.I know it sounds like ********,but---positive thinking, man!!
I'm 99% finished with the car---turned out better than I hoped---even got a 56 chevy project now. I finnaly figured out that this is my therapy--ends up way cheaper---and more fun.
So---I went from wanting to sell all my stuff---to having 3 cars and WAY happier. Good luck.
