Ive been drivin my A-bone everyday and night since I got it on the road last week. It seems everywere I go people are always telling me I "cant drive it everyday" or I "sould only drive it on the weekends" I tell em' back that "Its a ****ing car aint it?" "what are cars made for?" then I take off,I have found myself driving the long way to everywere because it is soo much fun driving, and cruzing around enjoying yourself and what you have accomplished! whats up with all the yellowo bellied sissys out there that park there cars inside and drive 10 miles a month?? I just dont get it! everyone needs to spend more time driving the **** out of there cars and not polishing there paint, A Hotrod is meant to be driven, hard and constant and should never ever be pampered!!! Go out and enjoy your peace of steel!!!
I get the same thing here in Detroit dude! I drive a 1968 Caddy Coupe Deville as my everyday car, as I refuse to buy a new car. Then if its decent out, I'll drive my 39 Chevy modified truck. Everywhere I go, people ask me "well, what are you going to do when it snows out?" So I reply....."turn the heat on and maybe get some snowtires or something" It kills people to see guys like us actually enjoy the **** out of our cars. They just don't get it I guess.
There will always be the wax and polish guys, the resto guys, the wheels and stereo crowd, and the hard core dudes like you/us. They won't get it and never will.
Ya and we also have a hell of a lot more fun then them too!! this winter Im going upto the snow in my coupe and pissin everyone off that its up there!! hell if my roadster is done I'll take that!!! Im glad all you understand! thanks!! JG
I used to put 350 miles a week on my Galaxie and people couldn't believe I drove it everyday. They just ***ume because its old, its unreliable. I called in late for work one day due to car trouble. When I made it to work, I had a couple of people ask what happened to my car. I told them "Nothing, my car is fine. Its my wife's new car that left me stranded and had to get towed." Its as if they wanted to say "I told you so" if I said it was my car. They also couldn't believe I changed the thermostat myself with tools I own and had the car back on the road in a little over and hour and only cost me $5 in parts. Most of these guys might own a hammer and one of those cutesy tool boxes with flower-print handles on all the tools.
LIAR.....I don't think you really drive it..... I still haven't seen it. You need to take some time and drive it out to the shop... We can go for a cruise. I get the same looks driving the T or the 38 around. People are getting used to seeing me in them now.... EVILT
your not allowed to express yourself with art on wheels.......they want it in a museum where it is protected from the harshness of life. You have ****d it buy "soupin it up"... Its not allowed to be yours, it has to be in the vein of protecting our history....you deliquent, you history abuser you.........the devil has lead you down a vile automotive path....redeem yourself............
I got home last nite after driving my 31 Ford Coupe across the state of Arkansas to Missouri. I was gone 2 weeks and drove 1158 miles. It has the original engine and wheels so looks stock but has a dropped axle, high compression head and self energizing, self adjusting 1975 Chev brakes and a fully synchronised overdrive transmission. I ran 55-60 most of the time with some 65-70 mph. I also made a dropped floor for the trunk to get more room to haul stuff. I bought a bed, tailgate and rear fenders for a 1937 Ford pickup while I was riding around. I found an old panel truck and a 1939 Ford schoolbus to check on next time I go back..
Exactly my brother, I drive the **** out of mine all the time, rain or shine.....it drives to wanna-bees nuts......
I'm a contractor... Anyone got a cool design for a roof rack on a 33 Plymouth Coupe so I can haul pipe and 2x6's? I prolly should have rodded a truck.
Drove this everyday for 5 years, before I got my 48 Chev Pickup. It was my only car. Drove the P-up another 3 before getting married. Then I drove a Toyota. Sad. People never thought I was crazy. They always thought it was great. BR
I've been drinking, so bear with me on this. Go to your local gun store and buy a small gun, keep it in your front pocket, when someone says something stupid like that to you.SHOOT THEM!!, I'm sure you are a young guy, and you will be out by your mid 40's. I gotta go my wine gl*** is empty..
I'm actually in the specialty car business, and what I hear sometimes is that they actually drive the car so much, it becomes an everyday vehicle, and they get tired of it, and have to move on to another car. Then again, they're not talking about an A coupe.
According to my Dad, the snow was always waist deep too!! I got the same treatmetn when I drove my '42 GMC all winter long. I'd tell folks "It's a truck, that's what God made 'em for." I suspect that these folks are the ones who don't know how to fix cars. They figure old cars are fragile relics that should be pampered, not really realizing that it can all be fixed and that some water isn't really going to hurt anything.
I'm a gold chainer and I drove my 58 without heat in 30 degree weather last night, just went for a hour cruise, had to keep the windows down so the windshield would not fog. Froze my a$$ off but I had fun !!
when i was in high school my only car was my 29 rpu...really ****ed in the winter(i did have a canvas top though) and all the cool kids had 80's mustangs...i got made fun of alot, called eddy munster and ****,even though i don't look anything like him....nowadays people would think that was cool.
You make a very vaild point. People ***ume it's unreliable, because it's old. Thing is, who better to know if a car is reliable but the builder of that car. Everyone knows things break, but in the long run, people are skeptics. There are probably more people today that don't know anything about their cars (can't even change a tire) then back in the day. I know - I've met a few. I also know the feeling about people not believing that you can actually work on your vehicle - it's even worse when you're a girl. I changed my own brakes not that long ago - Hatch even said that his own sons don't change their brakes. It's just something I've always done. I don't think people have much faith in themselves anymore or are just too lazy to learn and work on/at something.
Some are amazed I drive 600 or more miles a week in my daily driver, my "newest" car, nearly 20 years old.
