Here are a couple more pictures, they are about 8 months old. We are about to get started working on it again, we have a flathead for it now, and we going to a clutch drive with no tranny... We wanted it to be "drivable" in the first place. but now we realize room won't allow. The tanks we are working with are smaller ones, we are not sure what plane they came from but as you can see they are not the desirable aluminum tanks. We are looking for a quickchange now, and we are rebuilding the frame out of rectangular tubing instead a discarded model A frame. I will try and put up picks of the v8 mock up tomorrow.
yeah, that was the problem with the tranny, there was little room for the driver, but it looked as though it would work, with hand clutch, and gas a brake pedals... will turn out better with the v8 hopefully
Looks like the Tom Beatty belly tank......frickin cool! Can I come over and see it? I live in Concord, I'll even bring you some beer. John
While it wouldn't be exactly Vintage, you could probably fit a VW transaxle in there, the transmission would be behind the axle centerline. And the stock VW case can be modified to accept Hewland transaxle parts,so you can change all the gear ratios. The case can be run right side up,or up side down to get the crankshaft height where you want.
Yeah FarmerJohn, just PM me, we can figure something out... and the VW transaxle is a good idea, but we are trying to stay pretty true, but keep it safe. -Jeremy
Hi ! Just wanted to let you know that I just bought an aluminum belly tank and that I am going to build a lakester as well. cheaterstef from thecheatersgang.com
Why don't you try an in and out box like they use in a sprint car. You should even be able to find a 2 speed. That aren't very big and it would be a definate advantage, on or off the salt.
I,m gonna start on mine soon(I hope) That thing is gonna be cool. I am up in the air on what motor to run, but I know I'm gonna go traditional instead of current for racing.
