The spider caps (red car) are all polished stainless and cover the "spokes" of the wheel as well as the bolt pattern. Gennie ones are very expensive, and I believe they are available as repops -- also expensive.

'36 and '37 hubcaps have a painted outer ring covering the bolt circle and a stainless center, similar in shape to the spider caps. The two years are similar in shape but have a different paint scheme. They are fairly common at swap meets, although cherry ones are hard to find. The '36 style has been repopped but they are not very good; the repop SS cap is attached to the painted part by bent tabs (the OEM ones are shrunk on).

The caps on the black roadster are '39 Standard and are much more difficult to find. Some caps with the same shape but a different V8 logo were made aftermarket back when; their quality is fair and they are sometimes available at swap meets, not very expensively. There are no current repops of these.

I got a set of 39 caps off of ebay a few weeks ago. Never put on a car, NOS!! I thought I got a pretty good deal on them, $45 bucks each.

So how are you guys running juice brakes on the 36-39 spidles? You would have to have the early backing plates from the mechanical brakes yes?

I'm running 46 backing plates all around (39-48 will work)
39 front drums and 36 rears

the 36 fronts dont interchange onto the 37-48 spindles but 37-39 all interchange and 36-39 rears do too

SUHRsc, Seymour: I haven't seen any repops for '39 Deluxe. there was an aftermarket version of the '39 Standard, but with a different logo.

Choprods did. You're pretty much limited to using an adapter and covering the whole mess with a hubcap.

Hey Kevin, what is this adapter you are speaking of? because im going to use a 8 inch ford rearend because i would just destroy a banjo which i really wanted to use.

Yeah, their the only set I have seen that were all stainless like that and that big. I got them from a guy around here they were on his 39 conv. (all stock car, was his dad's car and he had put the caps on it back in the day) I had to have them!

    Wagoon:

The red primered roadster at the top of the post is mine- The wheels are 37 wide fives. The hubcaps are rare specialty accessory wheels that were sold through Ford. The wheels and hubcaps came off a 37 deluxe woodie and when I bought them I had no idea how rare the caps were...sometimes you just get lucky!

Just an idle thought...and I really don't know...
Are early VW or Porsche wheels the same size bolt pattern?

Some metric stuff is/has been coincidentally the same size as inch stuff is why I asked.
