...besides friends and family and all that ****.

Last Sunday I picked up my slightly used '31 Model A. I had a busy week, but regardless, I met my first goal in this project... That goal was to drive the bone stocker around the neighborhood a few times... Here's a pic, followed by a couple links to some vids we shot this morning.

Thanks to Jasonic for hooking me up with this deal, and thanks to my buddy Ahron for shooting the vids and helping me get it goin'.

Getting kinda attached to the four banger... who knows what will happen from here...

    Happy Thanksgiving!

In the late 50's me ol' man drug a beat up Motley A home and I thought the man had flipped out. Spent the summer sanding on that machine and driving it around the back yard. Drew several pencil drawings of what it would look like as a hot rod with flathead in it but the ol' man wouldn't have any of it. We got it on the road and drove it for several years till I left home for the military.
It was that old Ford that introduced me to Model A's and I'm so glad it did. The Town Sedan is currently being restored but not to original condition. It will be a long distance touring machine so it's set up with an overdrive and a 4 banger that's been tweaked a little with a reground cam, larger intake valves, porting, balancing, high compresson head, lightened flywheel, dual downdraft carb, etc. Not my father's Model A but it's still a banger and the basic, clean lines of the A are still there.
A well done A rod is a thing of beauty but so are it's roots.
Ya gotta drive it however, no matter what you make of it. A's were made for tinkerin'!

Dave, just 18 days ago this was parked next to your Model A. On our way out to get the PU you called Jason and told him you wanted the coupe. Good thing you made that call!:D Really nice car.
I haven't had time to get mine running. Cool videos, you really trust those mechanical brakes, rolling up on the garage that fast!!:)

"Cotter Key Dave"...You gonna join the local Model A club and drink coffee and talk about Tillotson carbs?...You Need to seperate that body from its former GAY life as a bone stocker!

  12. WOW! is right, just a thought, you could remove the coupe body & replace it with a roadster body(and related) & end up with a stock Model A roadster + put the coupe body on a "hot rod" ch***is & end up with Hot Rod Model A coupe....:D

    Replies...

A-Zonie, That's a great story. This isn't my first A project, but by far the most inspiring. Not sure of the build yet... Part of me wants to yank it apart and simply build a new hot rod ch***is for the body. One of my buddies mentioned a slow evolution from stocker to hot rod, simply adding, or removing a few elements at a time. That sounds appealing too, because I could continue driving it. I have a few different powerplants I could use, a SBC, a 425 Nailhed... but part of me kinda wants a flattie (but then again, I like to go fast)... Right now I'm so indecisive, I'm not sure what will happen.

swimeasy, Miller High Life will buy nearly anything in this household, (from me anyway, my wife likes wine and liquor...)

Buzzard, Wanna race? What's the handicap for stock four banger to SBC? I owe you $50 for bucket seats, don't let me forget.

D.W., I know where you live, ****er!

    BellM, This thing has brakes?

JRussel, You uh, want me to cruise this thing on up to Iowa so you can go for a ride in Model A? (I leave tonight, be there in a week.)

Thanks guys, had some friends over last night, and we were driving the thing around the neigborhood like a little carnival ride. It was totally ridiculous, but really ****in' fun.

    Happy day after Thanksgiving day.
