Please don't read this if you dislike the Goodguys, just crawl back in your hole. I just looked on the "GOODGUYS" web site and they moved the Great Lakes Nationals to Madison, at the Alliant Energy Center. Also they added the Chicagoland Nationals, to be held at the Chicagoland Speedway.
Goodguys at Chicagoland is a PEAK-sponsored event, and I'm trying to push them to at least get some VRA racing going across the street at Route 66 Dragstrip... Would be nice to run on their NHRA track! We'll see. I think their worried about getting people to know about, and show up for, the new Chicago event first... before they try to add VRAs. That's my understanding, anyway. JR
That'd be fantastic. Being right in the middle of all the drag racing is why I love the Indy event so much. Wish Indy would stop getting rained out though. If I'm still in the area this summer, I was definitely planning on at least the Chicago event.
Some car guys I know from Madison claim it isn't a friendly city for hot rodders. Apparently when Americruise (I think it was Americruise, but might have been something else) went through town a few years ago lots of tickets were awarded. This is NOT first hand knowledge, just stories I've heard from Madison people. Any Madison area HAMBers out there that can enlighten us? My concern is if they are hard on fancy, quiet street rods, what will they be like toward those nasty traditional rods?
I'm planning on driving the Forty up to Chicago if I can get roadworthy by then. Sounds like a neat event.
The old NSRA Street Machine Nationals went from Milwaukee State Fair park to the Madison in the early 80's. It only lasted for a few years and then totally disappeared. I would drive into Madison and then get out after the show.
I didn't think waukasha was that bad of a place , plenty of room ,easy to get to.....I'm not a big fan of Madison myself but, I'll probably go.
it will be cool to have a joliet show, especially if they include the drags, cuz thats the best reason to go to indy...well...that and if you like your shows to get rained on too, than indy would be great for ya...
They need to seriously look into having the show at the drag strip in Joliet. The added attendance for the vintage drags would be BIG. If they had the drags i would attend it also besides the Des Moines show every year. Besides the roads on the infield of the Nascar track are all gravel, how many goldchainers are gonna go for that dusty mess? I suppose i'm just pissing in the wind here.
I've lived here (madcity) for 35 years and never got a ticket in my Road Runner or in this: Here's the Road Runner pic
