O/T Homemade Gift Help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fatty, Nov 24, 2006.

  1. Well my girlfriend is the best thing to ever happen to me. She has done so much for me as far as support with my Model A, getting my car club going, and of course the other fun things only a women can do for a guy;) . I want to do something for her that stands out.

Her favorite car is a 67 Shelby 500 not the gone in 60 seconds version the standard Shelby. Now I can never afford to get her the whole damn car. However it came to me after I was relaxing from finishing the Turkey dinner. I can make her a shelf thats the back end of the Shelby. I have the rear bumper, valance, and tailights. I am going to go with the quarter extensions off of a grande and fab up the decklid and spoiler.

I do not want to use the actuall tailight panel because of its weight and shape does not make it very good for hanging flush on a wall.

So my question is has anyone on here made anything similar and if so did you use the tailight panel or wood?

Also what kind of brackets did you use to hold it on the wall?

  2. Look at the late sixtys /early seventys T-birds....HRP

  3. These links will give you some better pics of the tail panel.

You could probably just use wood if you don't want to get too detailed with the sculpturing. Also the GI60S car did not have a gas cap in the center ( which looks stupid when it's missing IMO) Good Luck Sorry for the O/T links folks!

I can't help with any of the techy how to regarding the wall hanging but it is a very cool idea and one similar to what I've had in mind for years. I saved my Corvette's rear fachia from when I got rear-ended. My plan has always been to fix the fiberglass, repaint it, instal tail lights, and make it so they turn on with the flip of a switch and hang it on a wall in the house.

Some day I guess when I've got nothing else to do I guess.......

I'm sure your girlfriend is going to LOVE it. I know I would. Good luck making it and please post photos of it afterwards.

  5. Well thank you for that info that has got me thinking really hard on that.

I do have a dilemma I know this board is for traditional rods but I need a drivers side quarter extension for a Mustang grande I do not know the year I have for the passenger side but I think the Grandes parts were all the same.

  6. PM me and I'll see if I can help. FYI a Grande extension is the same as a stock Mustang coupe part but the year may be the issue for waht you want to do. Stu
