my opion. if you can't finish one what makes you think you can finish another. really my wifeys opion.
My secret formula for completing projects: 1. Make a short list of 3 or 4 things you will accomplish in the next week. 2. Don't waste time worrying about the enormity of the whole project. 3. Sit in your project occasionally and make motor noises, (waaaa, waaaa, rump, rump). Imagine youself driving to your favorite show, run, race, Denny's or whatever.
see ****** i told ya!!!!! relax!! we have all winter, and a new plan for going to other garages than mine. oh yeah and like someone had posted " i will be drinking your beer!" and freds, and mingas, and anyone elses !! hahah ****er
To give up now would be pointless. We all hit that stage in a build at some time(Mine is 4 years and still not done)The truck looks damn fine and dont forget its got your sweat and blood all over it!Listen to gl***guy and r e l a x. Side step for a while then get back into it when the time is right. You`ll be glad that you did.Any more pics?Cheers,Kol.
I have come to realize we all hit a wall eventually.. take a break.. close the garage door for the holidays and come back to it. after a break you will one day decide to go back out there. it is supposed to be fun.. so until it gets that way again, go find something else to do.
That thing is ****ed up! Who their right ****in mind would work over a piece of trash like that truck? I mean really! A 54?!? WTF!! What were you thinking? Are you kidding us here? What a ...oh wait a minute...that's the same truck I have. Oops...sorry bro Now really though, I almost sold mine last month and I'm glad I changed my mind. I haven't been able to start on it let alone get burnt out due to family obligations but I know I'd regret it. Don't look at the work, look at the task. The work is made up of many tasks. The idea of travelin around and lookin/helpin others is awesome...something I plan to do soon myself. You got a great start there. Here's an idea too. You obviously like what you've done since you mentioned the "fun" stuff. Trade some of that talent for things you just aren't looking forward to. As far as parts go, there's so many sources I can't list em here. Start with www.stovebolt.com. And for ****'s sake...KEEP IT!
Thanks guys for the words of encouragement. Here is a pic of the Bel-air dash and the tailgate which actually slides in from the top like a guilatine.
Looks like it wouldn't take too much to get it drivable, even if you throw some used parts at it to make it go. I'd do that, the faster you can be out and enjoy it a little, the faster you'll get the urge back to get it finished the way you want - besides, if you sell it, then what.. start all over again on another car? Buy one that's done but you're not 100% happy with it because it's not exactly how you'd have wanted to do it? That's pretty much a catch-22 -
I have definately decided to keep it and just cover it up until I can get a couple of buddies over to ***ist with a punch list. Not seeing it every day will make it that much more fun when I actually have some time. The **** I cant stand is doing the wiring, running the brake lines and measuring for a drive shaft. I believe that I would rather chop the top again than do these three things. WTF.
I went through the same thing building my Model A. Just put it in the corner and cover it up for a while and before long you will want to get back at it. It really looks good, I think you would be sorry later if you let it go. Good luck
I'm glad your keeping it.Hey ,what are you going to run for a motor and ******?Did you pick a color yet?
Funny, Court and I were looking at our 54 Bel Air parts car yesterday and he wanted to see what it would take to put that dash into his 54 truck. Now we see this. Can you give some pointers?
once you get a project to the point that you can start it, drive it up & down the driveway, it puts a whole new light on it. keep it and enjoy it
This is it man...if u put it in a corner covered life rolls on to something else that will take what little time you have. Pic one thing each week, and spend time on that one thing...even if it takes longer than one week. No project is always fun. At least not for me.
If you've made it this far in one year it's no wonder your burned out. You must have been in the shop every day for hours. After a while the fun does start to fade because it only represents WORK and no FUN. You've been given the best advice there is in this situation and that's to 'TAKE A BREAK'. Like others have said, you will regret it if you quit and sell it. Let us know when the build continues and post some progress pics. That thing is going to one *****in truck. Frank
