pic request - pillarless 53/54 chevy sedans

  1. hey guys im looking for some pics of 53/54 chevy 2door posts or 4 doors that have had the b pillars removed, ive just purchased a 53 4 door thats been converted to 2 door and had a 4 in. chop basically the story is, im going to tidy up the imperfections in the body work, one thing is really bugging me is the b pillar theyre rather bulky well more the rear side window pillar of the b pillar is and ive been thinking i can either rework them or remove them and id like to see how they look without a b pillar , im flicking through 50chevy.com as im posting this but if you guys can offer something here any help would be appreciated.

    post a pic and someone will photoshop that pillar right out of there. i have see very few post cars without the post that I like. most people don't follow through with things like glass, vent windows...or other items of interest...

  10. thanks guys ill get some pics of the car today, ive only had it two days, 49ratfink, yeh i know what your sayin but the thing is if i do follow through with removing the pillars ill make sure its finish properly as the weather here in aus is so damn unpredictable and i plan to drive the shit out of it. Loogy, that belair is what got me thinkin a pillarless would look neat. Choptndropt54, your car rules dude, any chance you documented the removal process and the finishing?, living in NZ im sure your like me with weather issues so im sure what your doing is what im looking for! I'll have to hit you up if i go through with it. anybody else got anything to share, itd be greatly appreciated!

    i like it better than the stock hardtop, that white car is awsome i seen it in a customs book in barnes and nobels. does anyone know if you would need a hardtop door, i would love to do that to my chevy

    that white car looks good. I'd like to see it in real life.. that's not a hardtop vent window... or a hardtop door for that matter. hardtop door would be the way to go, though you'd have to modify the vent window. I'd like to see it with the glass rolled up if there is any.....

    I'm real big on glass. and heaters too. I can't stand to be fucking cold. I should move to Arizona in the winter.
     
  15. gambino, the fuck you 54 and that white belair are pillarless royalty! both are what im looking for, anybody know if theres a hardtop/pillar removal tech? id love to have a read. also if anybody has some more pics of that white belair and gambinos chevy post them up. i got up to the workshop today with intention of getting some pics of my car for you guys and wouldnt you know, the zoom lense on my digital decides to die and when i finally get it working the battery was dead, ill get up there again tomorrow and get some pics before i tear into it, this is my first real project with modifcations and with all the little slip ups that have been made itll give me a chance to correct it and make it my own.

    it looks like you cant open the doors with the windows up? it must be an absolute bastard of a job to do properly.

    Uh, that would be me! Notice that the back glass has been moved forward to improve the proportions. The roof also lost a bit of crown toward the rear.

    If you look closely at the photo, you can see the two rear glass pieces resting against the tonneau cover behind the front seat. These obviously slide into place. I have never seen a picture of the car with the glass in place but I would assume that the rear glass pieces have a channel at their front edge where the front door glass would rest against it but maybe not.

    The front doors do not appear to have had the upper frame cut from the main door assembly. At least I can't see any part lines in any of the photos that I have seen of the car. This means that they left the upper door frame attached to the door and that it opens with the door. I wonder how they kept the upper frame from flopping around?

    If I were designing the front door and glass for this car, I think that it would be really cool to attach the upper door frame to the car along with the vent window so that the vent window would stay stationary when the door is opened. I would make the part line between the vent window and the main door assembly right above the stainless trim that surrounds the car and end it right where the divider bar meets the door. Then I would install a slim rubber gasket (similar to what a convertible top has) around the upper door frame and the vent window divider bar that the glass would rest against when it's in the up position. Of course the door glass would have to be slightly smaller than stock to allow this. A stainless or chrome surround around the glass would help give the glass some strength. Using a Hardtop door may help with the engineering involved in keeping the glass steady while in the up position.
