Hi, I'm building a steel 26 T roadster on a A frame with a 1979 V12 jag coupe independant rear end. How should I set up the spring rates? The T's a lot lighter with only a battery and 15 gallons of gas in the rear. The front ends a independant also. Any help appreciated.
Perhaps you could eliminate one coilover on each side. I have no idea where you might find lighter coils. I'm using torsion bars connected to the lower arms.
The Jag folks say eliminating one shock puts a bind on things. I ran Carrera and while the 10" is too stiff, was able to order a flat top cone and put a 12" spring in it. Still building. Go to the Carrera web site and put in estimated rear live weight and shock ratio and see what rate is recommended.
Yeah....removing one shock would put a twisting load on the lower arms. Would he have to buy four Carrera coilovers ? Or do the Carrera springs interchange on the Jag units ?
When I built my Model A coupe 20 years ago using a Jag rear end, I set up the top mounts for the shocks so they were adjustable. The further you move the top mounts inboard, the softer the ride becomes & vice-versa.
the rear is oing to be too wide. I would look into xke lower arms and axles. I used pro shocks and springs on the back of my a pick-up
Hi, Thank you all for the help on the Jag spring set up. Looks like new springs and coils. Regards Flat Head Phil.
down load the street rod construction guidlines from the dotars site ,it has a good page on the angles of shock location in relation to spring rate
