The owner is in a car club that I'm also in. I'm a newer member so I haven't seen the car in person.......yet.
I'm pretty sure it'll be at the Deuce 75th.....

Hot Rod cover car February 1962, sure did impress an 11 year old. Just one more reason to get out to the Coast for the 75th.:)

I know he has heard it a lot, but I wish he would have left it the way it was.

I called my brother last spring and he said he sold the 34 5-window. What? Yea, he had it on eBay for $14k and it didn't sell, so sold it locally. ****, why didn't you call me? Anyway, it was a body we found for $200 in a field, with about 400 bullet holes in it. So he built a drag car out of it after doing some rinky-dink body work (leaving some bullet holes in for effect). It was fun, and he used to take the tag off the 32 and drive the 34 to the local hangouts.

Anyway, long story short, the guy who bought it tore it all apart (even the motor, because he didn't believe it really had a bunch of race stuff in it), and is in the process of building it to NSRA specs.

What a loss... At least I got the Halibrands, as the idiot didn't want those.

the 32 sedan is the REAL "orange crate", and the inspiration for my 32 sedan.

the weird thing is, I have that issue by accident...and I LOVED seeing the spread on that car...absolutely amazing car, and I'm thrilled to hear it's getting a new lease on life...

  11. I have a photo from the Portland Roadster show, I was suprized how well preserved it was and think the owner is a damn fool for restoring a survivor that still shows well, unless he plans to put it back on the track. Bob Tindle once told me the biggest mistake in his life was selling that car. and he was a car sales man

I'm sick of seeing old race cars, and Kustoms, that some guy has made into a streetrod! Why can't they just clean them up,fix what needs to be fixed, and let the younger guys see a piece of history. That's why I love seeing cars that are restored,or even left like they were found. Example:Stone/Woods/Cook Willys,Greer/Black/Prudome FED,etc..

sometimes I'm torn on the subject, while it's nice to see something still being used and you can still see the original aspects of what made the car great, sometimes the things done to make it drivable really take away from what was so great about the original...I can understand wanting to drive the car, rather than have a bad*** drag car sitting in the garage that looks like a neat piece of history...but personally I'd still rather have it as a drag car than a street car anyday...even if that meant selling it to a museum, at least I'd know it'd be retained in it's "original" form...

I don't see how you could run that car on the street without ruining the look of it. Sounds like a total waste of time and money.

I'd just turned 11 when I bought that issue. Does anyone have photos of the modifications to make this street driven? Wasn't it offered for sale a few years back?

He's keeping the 394 Olds in it??

Wasn't this one of the very, very few Potvin-supercharged Olds-powered cars back when???

Is the owner performing the restoration? If not, then who is?

  22. I was raised in the Eugene/Springfield area in the 40s 50s and early 60s. Was active in drag racing in the late 50s early 60s and remember this car well, it was a real performer in its day and what an awsome build on the car, real attention to detail. When it came to the line, everyone payed attention!!
Belonged to Bob Tindle, I think it was Tindle Ford then, if I recall correctly.
    Oh Well Dave
