Well I am sure some of you have seen my other "life in San Diego post" and am now in the proccess of weeding out and figuring what exactly I have to do... FIRST, I have a 4 door '58 chevy, running driving, except no wiper motor, that I basically got for free, that I am in the process of making a g***er. Theres my dilemma, I was fine with it being a 4 door as I was planning on welding up the back doors and using a tonnoue <---(spelling) cover from the front seat to the rear package shelf, straight axle, fender wells, etc. you get the picture!!! Well should I continue on and semi finish it that way and sell it, or just put it back together as a 4 door driver and sell it??? I have not done anything permanent to the frame yet, but have it on stands and measured out for a cut and boxed out front section!!! My Kali. move will probably be in june/july so I have time to fit it in along with ALL my other ****?!?!?!?!?Ken
Here is my 58 4 door after I changed it..... Been posted here a lot ,but if you are new, you may not have seen it....
The fad will be over before you get done. I wish it was over now... Personally, I'd crush all the 58's, even the trucks...
Agreed. 4drs are way easier to sell stock and original than modified to suit your tastes - no two people have the same tastes, but it's a sure bet more guys will be into the stocker than the one you altered. With exception of that sharp El-Camino version, that is, I'd drive the **** out of that myself. As for the g***er thing, I did note that some guys looking to set records with the Chrysler slant-6 are running a '67-ish Dart 4dr because it's considerably lighter than the 2-door hardtop. If a sedan offers a weight advantage, then there is a chance someone ran it. And I see pictures in the old magazines of stuff like 5-6-7 4drs occasionally being run in the stock cl***es, WIllys and Anglia and like that too. A 58 Chevy would be pretty easy to turn from 4dr sedan to 2dr sedan I think, get some doors and front quarters from a 2dr and the rest is about all the same, just cut the B-post out and use the 2dr post -
If its running, drive it and enjoy it untill you find a 2door, then maybe sell it to get the 2door. Just keep it original, it will be worth more unmodified.
Hey Recar**** As a BIG fan of g***ers, and the owner of a 58, I'd like to see you come over here and give it a try
The '58 Trucks are really sharp, Indashop has a real nice one, not traditional, but still a beautiful truck. The '58 cars, well...
I didn't think it was a FAD myself... g***ers have been around since I believe the 60' although yeah they did die down for a while, but so did kustoms, and look at them now. which I also like.. everyone else thanks for the info, I'll just re***emble it and sell it, more money in the pocket for DAGO town...Ken
