Forget the Y block. Fab up some motor mounts and stuff a BBC and a 5 speed in the *****. I've always wanted to do that and make sure I had the hood open every time I parked the car. And before we get all of the negative SBC and BBC comments it's traditional to put a Chevy in a Ford. We've been doing it since 1955, over 50 years. Frank
I think 57 Birds were the best looking T-Bird of all time. I don't think it's off topic at all,...... Nice Car !
I like that! I can't stop grinning and laughing! I knew I was the traditional type. Great find! Don't paint the rims red...
Someone here had pics of a then-new '57 Tbird with an injected 392 Chrysler under the hood. I'd do that. Sweeeeeeeeeeet score.
my personal fave........ 427 side oiler with two 4bbls,or a new moduler motor out of a '06/07 mustang gt, or that 500+ beast out of a ford gt or.........
Keep it Ford. With modern machine work and parts you can rebuild the Y better than ford built it. Sweet car
Keep it original, clean it up and do a quick driver resto on it to get things in order...sell it....make a fortune.
OK I've had a change of heart. Either put a Cammer or a dual quad high riser in it and I'll be satisfied (stick shift 4/5 spd, no wussy automatic) Feel free to drive it around a bit after the conversion before you call me to pick it up. While your at it I like black on black (always have but 3w Larry has been fanning the flame as of late) Frank
Nice score. I'm not going to get into the "keep it Ford" arguement, but if you put anything other than the y-block in it, you will knock 20+ grand off the value of the car when finished. I guy up here with a '57 Bird updated the suspension to a MII, put in a nasty 351 Windsor, billet wheels and a killer silver/lavender paint job. He had over $50K in it. He got $18K when he went to sell it. Mostly restorers buy T-Birds and they don't like when things are "modified". The most I would do to it is put in a 4 or 5 speed, cam, headers, bigger sway bars, etc. and disc brakes so it handles and goes better but looks stock. Just my 0.02.
So this is what you've been up to. Been kinda wondering cuz you haven't been seen or heard from in awhile. Great score.
There's a fresh, '62 G-Code 406 Tri-power engine from a Galaxy here on the bulletin board here at work. Guy found a 427 to replace it with. Carbs are rebuilt by a spe******t in Ohio, .060-overbore, Holman Moody cam, original intake and air cleaner, etc. etc. etc. $4950 is what he's asking. Now THAT would be the cat's *** in that 'Bird! Brad
There has bound to be a cool story to go with this one, fill us in? Usually you see something like that you get the "I'm gonna fix it up someday" answer and the car just goes to waste. Apparently that car had spent a lot of time indoors to look that good. Was it an older restoration or original?
From that little photo, I take it to be a '66 or '67 Bonneville. Great find!! Only change I'd make (and did, back in the day) is find a twin-leading brake backing plate, it just replaces the single leader that is there now. Cosmo
