putting new door panels in the '53 and have some ??. I am using the black cardboard that is intended for door panels and such but when I cut it and drill it the holes are quite rough - what method you guys use to get clean edges?
I plan to cover the panels with vinyl with alittle foam underneath for padding -what adhesive do I want to use?? thanks-

Yes a punch for round holes and a sharp razor knife for everything else should give you a good line.

Mid grit sandpaper should knock your rough edges off.

I used one of theese and it kicked ass , all I did was used a templet to make a perfect hole . Then after I make the rough hole I hoged it out nice and clean with the dremel bit .

Sand paper on the edges makes them nice and smooth. As far as adhesive, my favorite is Weldwood contact adheasive.

Yep, what they said.... I'd also suggest gluing thin contractors plastic or a section of a heavy trash bag to the back side of the panels as a moisture barrier. They say that cardboard is "waterproof".... but it's not.

Most major auto upholstery supply places now stock 4' x 8' sheets of blak plastic...about 1/8" thick for door panels...THOSE are waterproof...and cut nicely with a razorblade...they won't warp either...and no need for sanding or glueing trash bags on the back...

  10. 3M Super 77 is a really nice spray adhesive that is reasonably priced.
If you want to step up a little bit use the 3M Hi-strength 90 which will stick to EVERYTHING including smooth plastics and glass.

They run about $8/$12 a can respectively and the Super 77 was available at Home Depot last time I looked.

I've also put some plastic over the cardboard too before I glue everything down. Just to maybe keep any water from possibly getting in and warping it. Just a suggestion. Oh and yeah use high temp glue!!
