40 Plymouth coupe will be here next week. Currently no motor or transmission. I'm looking into the drive train possibiilties now and am looking for thoughts, advice, suggestions to ponder on.

My goal for the drive train is to make in the 500 hp range and will do the required work to make this happen. Money is always an object though I'm not trying to make 500 hp on $1000 or less (joke).

I'm going to run on pump gas.
I'd like to avoid being just another rod with an SBC lined up.

I have a Buick 455 with 400 trans from a 70 Riviera unknown condition at this time. (probably should get off my backsides and tear it down)
I'd like to consider a 440 and 727 combo if reasonable.
I'd like to stay away from SBC.

Any and all suggestions, thoughts, helpful advice is greatly appreciated.

  2. If you're on a budget, SBC. Otherwise, 440 or HEMI!

Throw a caddy 500 in there with the turbo 400. Not real expensive and gobs of torque and around 375 hp stock

Chrysler "C'' body cars with 8 3/4 rears are a bolt in for this car Steel Crank 440 and 727 fit very nice with very little modification.

Sorry to be stupid, but what are the "c" body cars(like I said, I'm not a mopar guy normally though I guess I should become one)?

Also, I'm not really on a budget though I'm not interested in spending 10k on the motor at this time. And, I'd like to stay away from computer systems, injections and that whole headache.
