Whats you'lls thoughts on a 64 Ford Falcon. I picked one up in fair shape running and driving with a 260 for $3500. Do you'll have any design ideas or pictures you could send my way. Its a two door. Thanks Josh
Cool car, hard to go wrong in any direction. I'd prolly set it up with a Thunderbolt hood, Radir wheels and big meats on the back. Drop in a hot Windsor with retro valve covers and speed parts. New shocks, springs, sway bars, sub-frame connectors, and poly bushings for high speed cornering. Shoot it with red primer.
Hehehehe... I thought I was going to be the only HAMBer that suggested doing it as a touring car. A friend here in Australia races one in historic touring cars and it would make a killer street car (especially considering its got a 450hp, quad-Weber 289!!!) Some pics...
Best Falcon shot I seen in awhile... it's a roundbody, but still... damn. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=145450
FUN!!!...I'm a nut when it comes to some of those road racing cars...I would LOVE to see more cars built like this when done just right...especially complete with the lettering and such...they just look downright FUN!!!
Here's the link to a forum on the Windsor Small Block in case you need ideas on what to do with the engine (not that there aren't tons of guys on the HAMB with SBF experience). http://www.network54.com/Forum/119417/ You can buy tons of stuff for a Falcon since it's basically the same as a Mustang. The idea to turn it into a touring car would actually work since you can get disc brakes, a rack & pinion, etc.

I'd go the "Thunderbolt" route also but FE all the way. You can make a 390 look just about like a 427 and it will drag that light Falcon around real nice. A decent 390 can be bought and built for not a ton of $$$. Crites Restoration makes the parts to put the FE in the car along with plent of fiberglass stuff. DST built two of these cars in '64 for Ford. They were run by Phil Bonner and Dick Brannan. Is it a hardtop or sedan? The factory cars were hardtops.
But a heavy FE in the Falcon would just kill handling! I'd stick with something lighter, 351 Windsor at best. But why not stick some 427 OHC decals on and stick a 4.6L in there (or it's bigger 5.xL brother)? Will have a lot of people scratching heads and going ape over such a rare car/engine!!!!
One thing to keep in mind, if the engine/tranny are original it has the 5 bolt bell pattern. If it is C4 tranny it is rare! only year made w 5 bolt. Looked for by people restoring 641/2 Mustangs. keep both or change both!
Thanks for all the replys and ideas. I will be recieving it friday, how friday can't come soon enough. Josh
Hey, what part of El Paso are you from? I am on the far east side, and I have a few Falcons and Comets including a '64 Falcon wagon. I also build alot of parts for the early Falcons and Mustangs in my fab shop. Pm me and I can give you my number and address.
And the HAMB strikes again...you gotta love a place that someone can post looking for ideas on his '64 Falcon, and wind up finding someone in his own damned area that specializes in them...hahaha...Viva La H.A.M.B.
I had a 64 Falcon quite a while back. Nothing beats a Ralleye clone. I set mine up using a TMC lowering and A-arm relocation kit (developed by Shelby years ago) with a beefy front sway bar and poly busings all around. I could see the benefit of doing one up real simple and clean. You can avoid the Muscle Car stigma since they still look like a small American Sedan if you don't get too mullety with it. Or be nutty and go Gasser!
