Ya know... Some of these cars I see look like someone is just out to purposly build the shittiest lookintg car they can, add some skulls and shit to it and say "look at me! I have a rat rod!"

Whatever.. they're retarded...

As for the rust? Well.. I live in Detroit (rust belt) and the cars I find can have quite a bit of rust around here. My 70 Dodge has some rust. Bad enough that Hot Rod magazine would call it a total loss and junk it. People in my area say "holy shit" and "I can't believe how great of shape this car is in!" Yes.. It's an original Michigan car from the lil' old lady original owner. Sometimes I like to to do mild mods to my cars while still keeping some of th ehistory of the car intact. Even if it means the rust and the blatant screwed in side molding fix (hehe). While being anything close to a religious man, I even deceided to keep the palm tucked in the headliner from a Psalm Sunday many years ago. It's the history of the car ya know? It's good karma

But I do think this other guy's tryin' too hard to be cool or something (shrug). Whatever.. It makes him happy.

thats exactly what I meant too, seems like a lot of folks just get them for that reason. cool tattoos are cool. stupid ones are fun to laugh at. But It seems like over the last 10 years fully-sleeved heavily tattooed is more accepted now. Thats all you see on stuff like MTV etc.

In my neck of the woods we concider rat rod to be synonymous with poor engineering, poor execution and poor quality. Paint or no paint is up to you. And yeah it's a kick in the gut when someone mislabels your car as a rat rod. Especialy when you come from somewhere with rust problems and you've spent countless hours putting stability back into the body of your ride. But you know what, it's all based off opinion, geography and understanding of history. If it offends you, be a man, step up and tell them why your shit shouldn't be labeled as such. I know it's weird to imagine, but mom was right. Communication works.


As for the "fuck off." I would agree that it's tactless and a cheap and I wouldn't want my younger siblings it. And I know for sure my Grand-dad would be ashamed to see hot rodding coming down to that level.

But it's your car and you're the best person to judge it, so who cares what anyone else has to say about it?

 

Tattoos are traditional.....if you are a GI or an ex GI....that served in the orient....and got it while you were drunk. Also traditional if you got it in jail.

Tattooing in the USA is a new artform, not a traditional one. It may become traditional after a few decades of the Discovery Channel.
