my buddy asked me if i knew how much a flaked top would run. i'm not a painter i don't know. any1 on here know how much a flaked top runs or starts at?
I'VE BEEN QUOTED $1,000.00 FOR HEAVY FLAKE. BUT THATS ON THE EAST COAST IT'S HARD TO FIND A PAINT SHOP THAT EVEN KNOW'S HOW TO PAINT FLAKE.
It really depends I have seen as little as $300 and as much as $1,000. what is really important is you get the flake on your car,and not a flake trying to paint your car!
the hop up shop in Bellfower flakes roofs for $999 & they do it quick! here's there# 562.925.4002 tell them Jeff from the MOFO's sent ya!
I haven't shot any flake since the early 70's but am going to do my new 61 ford long top i just got, should be fun!
wow with these prices i gave to wonder how good the material is that is being used ...... it is like tattoos .... cheap tattoos aren't good and good tattoos aren't cheap ...... a gallon of good clear runs 300 bux with hardner ......... plus flake , plus base , plus reducer , primer , tape sandpaper , masking paper ..not to mention overhead.... you get the idea ...... i have fixed many cheap flake tops ........ a paint job with **** paint will look like **** . maybe look ok for a while . but i guarantee it will not last like good quality paint .....
Cheap definately doesn't mean good! Be prepared to spend 300.00 to 1000.00 for the materials alone. "If Huffy built airplanes, would you fly in one?" I spent 800.00 for my materials, and that was cost.
wow alot of good feed back. i'm familiar with imperial kustoms and he gets down. not the shop in bellflower i haven't heard of ,any1 know where its located or have soem pics of soem flaked tops i can show this cat?
Shoot i got all excited to show you a shot of my flaked 61 longroof and I'm so damn new that I don't know how to put up a picture..... and as far as shooting a wagon man, that's a long, unforgiving surface! painted mine twice and used a jar and a half!
Materials cost at least $200, I charge $500 for basic, more for custom shifty flake or scallops. If you don,t shoot flake you need to buy equipment to shoot it, either big gun tip like 2.2 or I use a flake buster.
I can agree with the materials part. materials cost BUNCHES of cash -especially when you consider what all goes into each car- primer (or at the very least, sealer),base paint, candy, flake, and clear. are the obvious ones... however, tape, paper, plastic, filler, razor blades, laquer thinner, sand paper, compound and buffing wheels are usually overlooked. Buzzard spent a pretty penny on materials, but ,as you can see, it was worth it.
We start at $1200...Yes START. You also have to take into consideration of the condition of the roof. I've seen lots of hack jobs on roofs, and flake jobs with not enough clear, the flake is uneven, mouldings left on because they were too lazy to take them off and so on,...Like stated earlier, good materials aren't cheap either...You always get what you pay for when it comes to paint...cheap flake job = cheap flake job...
