Not quite on topic, but these are neat. I wouldn't put it in the dash, but maybe a between seat console.

Did I even mention that I helped bring to the forefront the world's largest iPod repair business? Proud of it too, I might add. :)

Thanks for the offer Mike , Chad and all the info guys but I need the details:D Parts pictures it's all in the details:D .. I still spin vinyl and need all the help I can get.. I would think that Apple would have made a system for this kind of thing but I guess not.. It seems like its' all aftermarket goodies, good and bad . It's good to hear the ideas using off the shelf parts to make things work and better , that's hotrodding!!

pretty simple....go to wally world, get a cheap amplifier and a pair of speakers, wire them up like this...the ignition power goes to the one that turns it on (probably a blue wire), battery and ground are the big fat wires that give it all it's power.

the cable from the ipod to the amp has a 1/8" plug on one end, and two RCA plugs on the other end. The RCA plugs to into the right and left inputs on the amp, the speakers connect to the right and left speaker outputs.

You can make it more complicated if you want....but this will get good sounding tunes in with a minimum h***le.

I'm planning something like Squirrel's drawing for my '64 Olds, as I don't like the looks of a modern CD player in an otherwise clean 60's dash.

The only thing I'm changing is instead of an Ipod, I'm using a Nokia cellphone. I guess this model is discontinued already but it has MP3 and an FM radio in it, which is all I'm gonna need.

I'm planning to mount the amp under the driver's seat, or in the trunk, then the plug in wire is going to come up between the cushions on my front seat and just lay there, so I can plug it in from there.

Well, I use an iRiver ($80 new on ebay) which is rated better than iPod and a LOT cheaper. No need for a recharger like iPod needs since i get around 40+ hours of music on 1 AA battery.

Anyway, since you already have and iPod...

I went to Best Buy and bought the cheapest 2-channel amp they had ($70) and stuck it under my seat (later it will go in the trunk), then I bought a $9 speaker from Wal-Mart. I think it was 4x9. Whatever it was it fit in the stock center-dash location in my 59 with some minor modifications with a file. I connected the speaker to the amp and grounded the amp. The iRiver plugged ight into the amp in some obvious spot (input or something like that) and then I connected power to the amp. DONE.

It works great. That one speaker is more than enough and it actually sounds good.

Supposedly iRiver has a built in FM tuner, but I haven't had time to mess with it yet

Jeez... not like I don't have enough on my plate as it is... but if you want to convert all of that vinyl to digital, Numark www.numark.com recently released the "USBtt" turntable. Supports Mac and Win, USB and ****og audio out. I've seen it retail around $170.

why do you need the line driver? A set of RCAs will work from the amp to the MP3 wont they?

  20. Yes, you can just plug in your MP3 player with RCA's. But with my setup it was recommended to use the line driver because the Rio doesn't put out much power. The volume level might be too low and not have enough juice going into the amp.
I'm not sure how much more juice a ipod would put out.

Bump so I'm not digging through search returns again. This is a good trhead for those of us with no radios and who want to use the MP3 player by itself.
