  1. I go to this old shop that opened in 1951. They still do razor cuts and all the guys there know how to do a DA perfectly. You can also still get a shave(warm towel on the face and all).

The owner loves my car and he wants a picture of my car infront of his shop for the wall inside. Great place to go. The inside looks just like it did in 1951.

Any of you guys/gals got a place like this??

I still go to the same barber since I got my ears lowered for the first time. My barbers father opened the shop in 1950 and he used to cut my dads hair back in the day. The coolest thing about that place is the guy that cuts my hair owns a 49 & a 50 merc and a 31 Ford coupe. Everytime I go in its all about cars. He subscribes to Ol Skool Rodz and Ck Deluxe, and always has the latest issues. Cool.

i do every now and then but he's twice as much as one of the cheaper places so i can't always justify it...it's the best damn haircut every time though! the cheap place that i go to has all old fixtures inside though, chairs, mirrors, coat racks, checkered tile floor etc so either way i go it's a nice taste of old stuff:D

Haircut? I dont need no stinkin haircut. I just let mine grow as god intended. The only problem is putting the gray in one strand at a time to keep my bald buddies happy. That and keeping it out of the creeper wheels. One of these days I will get a bone creeper. LOL

when young asian girls start working at "old school" barber shops I'll go. don't want some old man touching my head.

  8. How much is the guy? The place i go charges 15 bucks for a cut, shave and style. Plus I get a lollypop and smell all clean.

  9. Yea and you'll spend 100 bucks.

Amen, those creeper wheels are hell on long hair. Welding too, it's bad when you can smell the scent of burning hair over that of burning metal...

that's what this guy charges...but i do enjoy going to the one with all the cute girls. it's really a tossup between a good haircut for $15 involving some old guy touching my head and an ok haircut that i have to fix myself for $7 that involves some girl rubbing her rack in my face!

  13. 7 bucks for a rack in your face? Man around these parts the only girls who cut hair get around 75 bucks a cut. For that amount of money I can do to the T&A bar

barter for my haircuts. I work on my buddies 48 ford truck and he cuts my hair. He has a barber chair in his ba*****t,and a haircut usually includes a couple of cold beers. He usually calls me every couple of weeks to remind me I am about due for a haircut.:)

Same guy for 40 years , used to cut cl***es at high school with him . He used to charge me by pound (about 3 bucks them) , now the deal is in ounces and rate has gone to $10. He's and old rodder and used to be a partner in a top fueler . His shop is the center for all that's going on with the cl*** of LVHS 1959 .

Yep, The place I go has just three chairs and about six waiting chairs. The guy running the place has a plaque given to him by the town celebrating a half century of business award, and that has been there for a few years now.

It's where you get tomorrows news today. The police scanner is always on, and nothing happens that some one there doesn't know about.

Over the years I've gone to quite a few old school barbers, problem was they were old and getting shakier as the years went by. Favorite one was King Bruce the Barber in Detroit but he retired. My friend Jay opened a traditional barber shop on 12 mile in Berkley Michigan, The Chop Shop, he cuts the best flat tops and the shops pretty cool, always good tunes playing and plenty of car and culture mags to read plus a bunch of characters always hanging around.

We had one that was opened in 1960, and it felt like 1960 when you walked in. Frank, Sammy and Dino, on the radio. Metal ash trays between the chairs. Picture of JFK on the wall. A fade was $7 with the straight razor neck shave and a fistfull of clubman talc.

Now I'm bald and shave my head, but I miss that place.

  26. Mine is in a shopping center that was built in '64, it's been a barber shop since then. I worked in the grocery store that anchors the shopping center from '79-'81 (16 to 18), and got my haircuts there until... well... I blame it on MTV.

They still have the terrazzo floor, and the same counters, but the chairs are newer.

My flattops (leave it a little longer in the front, #3 on the sides, please) have gone from blonde to grey in the last 10 years since I've been back.

    $10 for a flat top, I give him $12

I finally found another decent barber shop after the gentleman who used to lower my ears p***ed away. Turns out an aquaintance purchased and resurrected an old barber shop with his father. I get the celebrity treatment, an occasional cigar, a peak at the latest ******* with friendly suggestions on the best pages to turn to, and get the fuzzies cleaned up with a crop strapped straight razor, even that mysterious (English Leather?) cologne/aftershave patted around my sideburns and neck after the trim. We talk shop, old cars, and he shows off pictures of his baby girl. I have yet to pay for a haircut and always leave a $10 "tip". Gus is the man.
That kind of treatment sure beats the cute but impersonal girls at the salon anytime. Even when you attempt to strike up a conversation with them, it's like talking to a Barbie doll. "Helloooo... McFly?" And 15 bucks?!?! ****, that's what they EXPECT for gratuity!
