Well this transplanted Calif boy is snowed in in Missouri. My Dodge truck made it up the 300 foot driveway last night, I work 2nd shift until 11pm, but went sideways about 40 feet from the house. It's still stuck there. My tractor won't move the snow either, it just spins. I almost didn't get it back into the barn. The ATV's won't go through it either. Oh well, I had today scheduled for a vaction day anyway. Right in front of the house it's 10 inches deep, but out in the yard it's close to 18 inches deep. At least we haven't lost power, and I have the internet to visit the HAMB. Here's some pictures. That's my big block Caprice wagon buried in the snow, it's a Calif transplant too. I don't think it'll forgive me for leaving it outside. Gotta love it, Dean
I feel your pain, I am also a Cali transplant. The storm is still going thru here lotsa wind and about 4 inches so far.
no snow, just cold, but it did start to warm up a bit this afternoon. I don't know how you guys do it
that storm had me stuck in colorado. i just got back to california last night after a 20hr drive, and there was snow all the way thru utah too. this storm is a mess
I don't think we even close schools when we get less than a foot of snow. Of course, I never took the snows off my truck this year, the summer tires I got for it were crap trying to drive around the field where I keep the cars. Be glad you didn't move north, I guess.... What's amusing to me is usually we have a good coat by this time of the year, but so far the most I've seen was an inch or so.. the rest has been rain.
The 54 plymouth has original studded snow tires in the trunk, HMMM I wonder if I could get it started in the cold? I would hate to try to drive that old tank in the snow. Kingpins wallowing back and forth, subpar brakes and 6 volt system threatening to leave you where ever you stop.
Being you said the tractor just spins. Would I be correct in assuming you don't have the tires loaded or chains on it?
I feel for ya.............it was cold this morning.but 68 and sunny today.....I may however have to roll up the windows...........So who else is driving their rides this weekend?
Well the storm missed us here in the center of Iowa. However the cold did make it. I came out this morning and looks like the guy I had throw the motor in my Bronco failed to give the antifreeze a good check. My radiator was a big block of ice this morning along with all the hoses. Took me 4 hours to get it all to thaw. Now its good down to real cold temps.
yeah good luck with that storm it was pretty nasty!!it wiped us out in seattle for a week.. considering everyone puts chains on there 4wd and still manages to flip them and get them stuck
You guys make me laugh, I live in Buffalo, New York, we have had almost three times that much snow already in OCTOBER. Time to get the chains and put them on that tractor if you want to do anything with it, tractor tires are very hard rubber compound and get harder in the cold! Better make sure you have at least -30 degrees protection (anti-freeze) in that radiator, 24 hours in weather like that and kiss your engine block, heads, radiator, etc.. good bye. Also remove batteries from vehicles that are stored or place trickle chargers on the batteries to keep from freezing. Time to learn how to winterize your car.
In northern Illinois here and we got dumped on with 12-14 inches of snow; but it was real windy so we had lots of big drifts. Took me 4 hours to push out my two driveways, and three neighbors drives with my 1950 Allis Chalmers WD. That snow was heavy and wet and the drives and road were really packed down so it was slick too. Finally wised up tho and made a crude but effective heat-houser on the tractor (on the sides of the engine) to direct the heat back to me on the tractor; made it out of cardboard and it really helped. Any other HAMBers got old tractors ?
I just walked in from driving a 173 mile tour of Cary, Woodstock, and Harvard in that stuff. I'm beat.
I was hoping we would get some snow as I put a plow on a lawn tractor last year and only used it a couple times and if we got a bunch I could make some money,I started to install a snow blower attachment on another lawn tractor but got side lined with some health issues and other projects. Jeff
We got 6 inches the other day. The next morning the guys showed up to start construction on my new shop. Timing is everything. Wayno
We got 18 inches at my house with 1 1/2 inches of ice under the snow. I took my son and pushed snow in the neighborhood and made 150.00 for him to buy Christmas presents with.
14-16 inches today ---it quit around noon----spent the rest of the day trying to blow the snow but the blower kept clogging up--spent 2 hours shoveling by hand i feel better now after venting thanks
I'm a Tulsa boy, caught a flight out yesterday before the big snow came son says 10 inchs in the yard. i'm in Burbank drove my drop-top in a t shirt. Dreading going back sunday. steele
We got about 6" Wed...I'm really a FL boy, so it's all new to me... ...put a trickle charger on, but it still didn't want to turn over, put a 100W lightbulb under the hood overnight - no joy until today when it warmed up over 30 (still 6V).
I think you already do! Over here on the right coast I took my coupe out to lunch yesterday with my pop and cuznbrucie. Had the heater off and the windows partly down. Today we got very little rain and some 30-40mph gusts, but that's about it. Still 60* outside at 10pm. Too bad, only supposed to be in the 40's the rest of the week. Speaking of 40's, you'd better put that coupe inside flat earnie, before I have to come get it!
