Yep. I just got back from visiting my folks in FL. In the park where they stay there's a guy with a '56 Ford golf cart. He built it on a golf cart chassis using parts from a local junk yard that was going to crush 'em. I liked his story. He said "For $50,000. I sent my son to college to get an engineering degree. When he got out I handed him a sketch of this (the golf cart) and said, ok, now build this!". He said it took them about a year to build and three to finish all the details. That was several years ago and he said it's about time to redo it. All the sheetmetal has been shortened and/or sectioned. The hood and truck lid were cut into 4 quarters and 25% removed from each quarter. He said the car is 24" narrower than stock. That's how much was taken out of the dash. Oh, he also owns a full size version hardtop. I saw it but didn't get a photo of it. It appeared to be original paint and interior. Very nice.
Wow, thats sick....I like it. That is a glimpse at what woulda happened if the car company KING MIDGET had somehow bought out FORD in the 50's. Kinda reminds me of a Crosley too.....
About 6 or 7 years ago, there was a guy that was taking night shop classes at my old high school...working on one of those. He had one he made already, and was building another...he also had a full-size one, a victoria with a glass roof if I'm not mistaken. Big car guy. I wonder if he moved to Florida? He was an older guy (60's)...I think his other one was red or pink...I mean...same exact idea...and cars...too weird.
Here's a couple for you Donnie;right from the WDC a couple years ago.The 55 is all around;the 56 Chevy was on a trailer whizzing by and that is the only time I've ever seen it. Ray
I was born in MI and moved to FL, doing that has never even crossed my mind once. But somehow I think they would all look better with chrome smoothies.
