I would like to be able to post them as we go but I don't think that will happen. so tomorrow I will try to post some in the am.
Look up HAMB chop on youtube and see what the other fellow HAMB'rs did to chopped50ford's shoebox. Any questions? Drop him a pm. KNUX! Calling all Metal-men - HAMB Chop '06 - So. Cal.
It should be real nice. Ive seen his shoe box its a nice car truly looks like some little old lady owned it,well it used too.
slant the b pillars makes a world of difference in the look well worth the trouble. top of back window 13" from the package tray
Hey, The best advise I could give ya is....... When in doubt, reinforce with square or round tubing. Depending on your welding skills, or lack thereof, or the severity of the chop, it doesn't take much to get off alignment. It's better to prevent a big screwup, than create one. Measure and always double check your measurements. Go slow and do the best work your skills have to offer, remember that most chops that were done in a short amount of time look it. It's all in the details, that's why shops charge 6K+ for a chop. S****ey Devils C.C.
Line your doors up PERFECT, before you start. Then cut some 1/8x1x2 steel, 4 for each door, then weld them shut. That should be all the braceing you need. All them braces are overrated........OLDBEET
well we got the lid off last night. we set up the look that I was looking for. then we pie cut the a pilars and got the top welded back to them. the plan is to slant the b pillars. it has 5 inches taken out of the a pillar. and it is roughly 2 inches lower in the back. all we have left to do is pretty much everything, we are taking it slow. we had a lot of help last night and I appreciate all of it. if it wasn't for ted aguilar and john kouw we would have not been where we are right now. thanks for the help guys. I will post some pics later today.
also for everyone else that helped thank you. justin, chris, jody, mike, and especially big jake for everything that he has done. and everyone else that was there for moral and beverage consuming support
well jake got some more done yesterday, including the a pillars welded back together and the start to the c pillars. we have decided against slanting the b pillars due to the fact that if they are not radically slanted i don't want them. and if they are slanted like that we would have to completely redo the radius' on the back windows and the door. and due to the fact of wanting it done for autorama in january we are not going to do it. well here are the progress pics.
hahaha, i love this site.. look at my sig, i had one, but no time for it now, and it NEVER would have been chopped... it does look decent for a choped car though
other than the coupes i think that body style looks like poo unless it is chopped. thats not to say i have'nt seen a couple unchopped ones that looked good but as a general rule... but then i've seen some chopped ones that i wish they had left alone.
Chopping is definitely a matter of taste, I would agree. I had done a bunch of body mods to mine and then my wife said it looked like an old lady car. Out with the saw after that comment! Still not done, but no regrets. I have always thought that the roof on a sedan between the B pillar and the back window looks way too thick. However, I too have seen some unchopped cars that I would definitely drive.
i just don't like how stock 2 door sedans look like a 4 door with the rear doors welded shut. i know i'm not alone on that one cause i've heard that comment a million times. but hey, to each his own. i think Sean and the boys NAILED the profile. wish i had been there to help.
thanks for all of the comments. building has ceased for a few days. that is until the snow lets up, i get some school work finished and the air compressor gets fixed. until then here are some pics of my friend mikes truck that got bounced off of the wall on a bridge on his way to help out with the chop.
well we got more done on the chop last night jake got the the c pillars and package tray all welded back togther. kirk and tom got one of the rear windows completed. mike and lippy got a good jump on the b pillars as well. I got the headlights ready to be fully welded in. and thanks to bret (mule farmer) for stoppin out and hangin. I promise there will be more for you to do next time. I will try to take some more pics this weekend and post them.
that ****s!! my buddy Chris is sellin a parts truck that might be of use. it's a long bed but the bed sides are pretty much rust free. i've seen them shortened into short beds before. might be worth it for the $300 he wants for the truck. the inner fenders on this thing are solid and prolly worth $200 alone.
