I went up to a swap meet and car show here local today. Backed in the first available spot which was right beside this really nice 60 somethin' Camaro. The owner, his buddy, and their wifes looked at me and my buddy as if to say, " Are you really going to park that thing here?" So I tried to break the ice and joked with him as he polished on his hood, "You can knock some of the dust off of mine if you want". All I got was snicker and the cold shoulder. Knowing I was only going to be there long enough to check out the swap meet, I told my buddy I forgot something in the car and got back in. Gave the gas pedal on my 31 Ford three full pumps and left. So when we went to leave about an hour later, you should have seen the cloud of smoke and unburned fuel that engulfed those guys. Nothing against those kind of cars at all but the at***ude was just ****ty. Funny thing was all that time and money in those things and everyone was around my ride.

then again, not all is as it is in Austin.

  4. they probably feel the same way, and get the same treatment at a hotrod show. This place calls muscle car owners 'mullet heads' and tends to ignore. Why would you think it would be any different in real life? Besides, if you don't think enough of your car to dust it off, why should a total stranger?

I've always been bothered by the way car people are separated by cars rather than brought together by them. I have noticed a superiority at***ude with corvettes, and muscle cars particularly, probably because that's where the most money is, and it attracts a lot of snobs that SEEM to look down on the rest of us.
But on the other hand, there's a lot of hot rod guys that like to thumb their noses at society with behavior, at***udes, and even painted slogans (**** off) that tend to cause people to look down on all of us.
The sad part is that we car people are a very small part of this society, and we should be banning together to protect our hobby from those who would like to make us ALL go away!

I get it too. Lots of folks these days with high end muscles cars hold a lot of people like us in contempt.

You can always ask them if they want to race. :D

    ianblaster,

Every group of car people have their cool people and their ***holes. It doesn't matter if its muscle cars, corvettes, street rods, customs, traditional hot rods etc., its just the way things are unfortunately. I wouldn't have moved my car for the world, tell I was ready to leave. I guess you showed them, now both are thinking the gull of that ***hole. Its like that on the HAMB we have a lot of cool people and a small amount of ***holes. I can think of six Hambers who are total ***holes and spend their days with their heads up their ***es. I don't care what your ride looks like as long as its safe and your having a *****ing time. Your line about the dust on your ride was cool........

    Well I own a 29 Roadster and a 64 GTO and I'm a ***** to everyone!!

Nah...takes too much energy to be a *****! If it has wheels and smells of oil and fuel I love it! Muscle cars are getting a premium in price so you are going to get some snotty at***udes from their owners.

I usually try and ask them about their ride, ask to see the power plant etc. Makes things easier in the long run..

I don't like to show my car off anymore. Too many negative and rude comments. The people will drool over a 72' Mach 1 with no air cleaner on it and then come over to me and insult my car.

That and the fact i don't want to stay around all day. I shoot my pictures and leave.

There are 2 things in life you shouldn't do:
    1. Don't mess with a man's family.
    2. Don't Insult/Mess with a man's car.

It may not look great, but i know if i want i can lay down two nice even lines{3.55 Posi} down the road and get it sideways a little.

Amen! Preach it bullicious. I feel the same way. I love ANYTHING automotive. I've even seen some pretty cool RICE. I wouldn't want to own one, but... some of those things run in a LOT faster than my prostreet car on NOS!

I've had a lot of musclecars, antiques, and rods. Even had a really **** ugly 70 Saab Sonnet wagon when I was in college- that car was so ugly it was cute. But anything that has wheels, smells of oil and fuel... :D

Oh ********.Owning high end cars has nothing to do with it.There's a lot of guys on here with high end rods, customs, muscle and restored cars. I recently sold my rotissiere restored '65 Plymouth hemi Belvedere sedan. I drove it to the same places I drive my hot rods.I've had good responses regarding my cars and negative responses. I've always found that if I was cool with people, and didn't act like an ***hole, I've always gotten along. There's ***holes in every group, no matter what we drive.Problem is, ****ing with people like"leaving a cloud of smoke and unburned fuel that engulfed those guys", as stated by ianblaster is ******** and yet another bad reflection on hot rods. He's lucky he didn't get his **** broke. .......just my opinion.

I was at the same show in my wannabe muscle 66 Mustang Fastback, (200 6 cyl, ergo wannabe) didn't see the person all day in the 40 Ford coupe I parked by, got there around noon, didn't see your car either so you must have left. Understand how you feel, hafta get yourself some thin skin lotion cuz it's gonna happen. I had a 55 Chevy and lot of people had to tell me all the things that were wrong with it.

Wan't a real big show but had some nice cars and stuff 4sale, 2 good buys were 62 Implala SS for $7500 and 1931 Cadillac coupe for $20,000, I'm going back tomorrow.

I think some folks took this post the wrong way. I guess my approach wasn't the best with those guys. It just angered me that I tried to be friendly with some of them and got nothing. Nothing against what anybody drives. The cars were beautiful. In the end, I expected more and ended up sinking to someone elses level. Seems some people here have jumped to conclusions and some need to go to anger managment cl***es with me. Just know, I don't care who you are or what you drive,if I see you on the side of the road I will be the first to stop to see how I can help you out. Even if you did slam me here.

  20. Look, you only go around once in life & I like to try to get people to laugh or leave 'em with a smile on their face. If you really want to have fun with some idiot, just keep smiling at them and tell them to have a great day. It really confuses the hell out of them. Not to mention you will find yourself laughing at them later instead of getting bent. Just my 2 cents on that.:D

None of us were there, we just have to take your word for it. And, being that I don't doubt what you are saying- people can be like that- I think it's funny what you did to them.....

I think you're comiing here and telling us because some of us should be able to relate. I'm not saying ratrods! I'm saying rusty, primered or unfinished hot rods.

We all have different ways to react. Depending on my mood, and how out of line they were, I might have done the same thing.....especially when I was younger. Or if I were in a good mood that day, I'd probably just have laughed at them and went on....

Sorry the thread went south and people make ***umptions (I just did). It's hard to convey your emotions in a forum. In any hobb/, things we do, everyone always wants to think THEIR way of doing something is the correct way. Shoot, I was just on a forum dedicated to burning coal. Guess what, THEY think they are beating the wood burning guys. And, the wood burning guys think that burning coal is for dirty/poor people..... go figure...

    Me like cars.....
hammered two saying in me while i was growing up....."kill 'em with kindness [fake or being real]" and "it doesn't cost you a d*mn thing to be nice to someone, it's free"

  22. love cars .. its people that ruin the show

its like xmas shoping its great see the displays and the neat decorations then bam the friggen unruly crowds..

both side here need a good lesson

how about next time flip them the keys and go along for the ride and see if we can baptise a few more
those looking for a fight will find one

I was there and checked out your red and white fastback. Thought it was a nice car. I was all over the 36 Ford PU down from where you were parked. Crowd was slim but not surprised since I did not know about it until I saw a post on the HAMB a couple days ago. Must have been very little promotion. But there was a good coss section of cars. Did you check out the chopped "A" down from where the 31 Caddy was? I just made a couple walk thru's, bought some trinkets and ordered some gl*** for my 52. Was surprised the 62 Impala was still there when I left.

    Hey..
Been going to all sorts of events over the past 26 years with the old blister. Personally I like to look at all sorts of rides and yap with the owners. anyway...
I too have run into some "at***ude" folks but I noticed that they drive most everything! I don't believe one can tag a label on folks because they drive this or that. Last year I went to a national event with some other folks. I have a 31 Ford (rat rod?) The other guys had, an 06 GTO, a 5.0 Stang and a 23 pro build T bucket. Had a great time..
So.. just my 2 cents worth but your gonna see "hasholes" drive'n anything and everything!

You wanna really piss someone off for giving you the cold shoulder next time you go to a show? Be really cool to them after they blow you off and just stand there and keep complimenting them over and over.... and over..... and over. Be REALLY overbearing about it. Even go as far as to get other people included.

Trust me. You will get a better jab in that way cause its gonna be a festering sliver in their mind for awhile.

I think part of the problem is the superiority at***ude some of the "muscle car" owners have. That at***ude extends to real life and doesn't have anything to do with cars so to speak. That rich sect has always had at***ude. They BUY their finished car. They don't really have any idea of what it takes to actually BUILD their car with their own hands.

Internally, they know they are inferior and this is what gives them the at***ude. The long look down the nose is self protection. By poor actions, you confirm that they are better than us because they wouldn't act like we did.

I enjoy breaking down those barriers by talking to them about the technicals of their cars. Most of them can't and will wander off quickly. Those who can will be enjoyable and common ground of "cars" will be found and at***ude will go away.

If you try, you can find something in common to talk about with pretty much everyone at any car event. You do have to try, though.

I've been snubbed by more than one traditional car club after driving more than 1000 miles to get to the show driving a traditional car.... go figure

  30. I totally agree with you. Car show a couple of years back I came accross a fella wiping down his Tbird, I was looking under the hood and asked him why his Yblock water pump was different than the one in my Uni. He looked at it and then me and said, hell, I dont even know what that is.. I just bought the car a year ago. At least he was "comfortable" enuff to admit he was a chainer. I think the superior at***ude comes from their ignorance and the possibility that you can expose this with a simple question. Defense on their part so to speak. Now giving one **** from just parking next to them.. this IS inexcussable...
