It would have been so ****ing funny to rev it up to 3 grand, and hold your hand up to your ear, and mouth "WHAT???"

When dumb***es can come rolling past the house with b*** so loud that it rattles the bedroom windows (at 80-90 ft away), then no one has a thing to say about my car being too loud in this neighborhood.

I know i'm getting old, I really don't care for really loud pipes either. To me, it's all about the tone. I had a chevy with a single open pipe, it was loud. But when I put duals with steel pack mufflers, it became wicked sounding. Big difference... any rusty piece of **** can be loud, but not many can get that deep v-8 rumble.

    Hey guys and gals-
Here in PA not long ago there was a bill before the state legislature that -IF- it had p***ed as written-would have banned all non-OE exhaust systems and components from being installed on any vehicle operated on the public roads-period. Chew on that for a minute......no headers, no straight pipes, no flowmasters, no smittys, no oversize pipes, certainly no high-flow cats, and often no dual exhaust at all. Now try to guess WHY anybody might support such a bill- hmmmm?? I can tell you it was largely because of citizens overall frustration with the guys with straight-pipe Harleys and "tuner cars", who seem to be the MOST obnoxious and inconsiderate. Thankfully, the proposed bill was shot down, THIS TIME, but if you are a**** those who habitually make way too much noise with your vehicles, don't ever, EVER forget that the people you are ******* off have telephones, and email, and know how to contact their local, state, and federal representatives. It's important to these folks to answer to the needs of their supporters (voters!) and its easier for them to look good by writing up an all-encomp***ing ban, instead of simply enforcing the (usually reasonable) existing laws. Having said all this, I happen to have 2 fairly loud hotrods, and within my group of friends there are a dozen more, but, as it was so well stated earlier, we don't **** where we eat. For that matter we dont **** where anyone else eats either. I also am employed within the automotive aftermarket, and you had better believe I sell alot of exhaust systems and related items. Something such as this would be a serious cramp in my lifestyle, for sure.. Don't think it couldn't happen in your state either. Wise up, boys !! It's not even close to being your "right" to tear down the street with your cutouts open, (on purpose or not), and if someone actually comes over and gets in your face and *****es about your "tuning" in the backyard, well they probably have a valid point. Its not in anyones interest to pour fuel on the fire, so to speak. I'll get off the soapbox now, but remember we're all in this together. Peace.

LOL. :D Believe me, I have had a thousand thoughts about how I could handle them, and my wife and I have had a lot of laughs over them. But I really try to turn the other cheek. Of course, that's not saying which set of cheeks I'm turning...:p

But I still have to live here, and everyone else in the neighborhood is cool, so why get everybody else up in arms. I can't throw mud without first getting a handful of it on myself.

I have found the best thing to do is just live my life and ignore the nosy neighbors. I try to keep the peace and go the extra mile even though it seems a waste of time. Most every other neighbor knows what I have to deal with and they understand. That;s enough for me.

My neighbors are really cool, but I get comments from time to time. "Where were you goin at 7:00 am?", that sort of thing. I try to be respectful, but if theres something going on at 7:00 on a Saturday morning, I am hittin the road. A good friend lives across the street. I actually keep 1 car in his garage. Lady next door comes from a racing family. The other folks dont talk much. I do some of fixin for them and keep the projects outta site. Swingin by with a case of beer doesn't hurt either.

My Comet has 14 to 1 compression, three inch exhaust that flows into a set of Flowmasters and then right into dumps under the car in front of the rear...with a 578 solid lift cam, and an idle in 1st of 1300 its not easily undetectable..I haven't had any complains here in NY..I've driven it open headered a few times..and I spin it to 7500 on the street...IN ct though...i had a few of the folks neighbors not liking me too much( i would drive the car to work, leaving early) but respondsibly as well...while tuning and whatnot in the yard, the would occasionally say something, or call the cops..who would come by and so they would be seen...I also was into car audio heavily and they did the same..I was never doing this at hours that people would be in bed...but they were just **** about ****...even my brothers bikes would piss them off...shoulda seen the look on a guys face when I took the car around the block open headered on the slicks...he actually changed his tune..came over and checked it out...told me it was cool once he looked at it..haha..I still don't care for him hahah

I had a Dodge demon that had the stock mufs on and had one neighbor that used to call police on me every so often. Went thru a divorce and was behind child support, had to go to court. I walked in and just said Oh ****!my neighbor was the Judge!

    I'm the annoyed neighbor.
My neighbor bought his kid an older 4runner for his first car. The first thing they did was remove the stock (and quiet) muffler and replace it with something really obnoxious and loud, but certainly not good sounding. The kid even admitted although my 5.0 Mustang is a quarter as loud, it sounds ten times better. Still, all hours of the night and day no matter where or what I'm doing around the house or yard I can hear this thing coming and going. I didn't know they had deliberately changed out the damn thing when I asked my neighbor when the kid was going to repair his exhaust and he acted surprised and said he (the kid) had just installed the (noisy) muffler. That was three months ago and all it is still so abnoxious I feel like doing burnouts in his manicured lawn everytime I hear it.
The music to your ears may not be to your neighbors. Think of the other guy and it will pay dividends of good will you might just need some day.

    Noise, not so much.
    Gas fumes...yikes!!!

My downstairs neighbor in the condo I live in (who I get along with pretty well) says that I gas him out if I start the car in the garage.
I just push the car outside the garage and close the garage door behind me now. I also never idle the car too long when I get home. So far my neighbor is not dead and we still get along great.

Had one neighbor yell at me 2 summers ago when I was trying to break in the cam on the coupe...390 Cadillac, 510/310 cam, 12:1 compression, 6 strombergs, Vertex mag...The car had short duals with Cherry Bombs. The lady of the house yelled "That's enough now!" at me at 5pm on a Sunday...keep in mind their house is 150 yards away, and there are big full pine trees between me and them. 5pm? Her husband must hate her too...he mows the lawn every half hour...
So now the car has six zoomie pipes with removable baffles. I don't run it in the neighborhood without the baffles in, and I always idle in and out of the neighborhood in an attempt to be as curteous as possible. Since that one day I haven't had one complaint...But, they don't know that I'm building a blown Willys drag car right now either... :D

how about doing an intro mr. im 25 and hate loud pipes

  19. I always stop loud noise by 20:00hrs, all noise by 22:00hrs. It was an unwritten law of the barracks block, It just seemed to stay. Having said that I had one neighbor that HATED my 38, wasn't loud at all, full exhaust with mufflers. All legal for Australian roads but every time I started it he was on my case.
My house mate had a louder car, though he didn't mind that.
Worked it out one day, he just dint like the type of car. He even complained about a mates T that lived two streets away!
Oh, my house mates car was an early 80s Aussy Falcon, louder than both our cars but that was fine.
The *** monkey even had a go about how loud my R/C car was AND IT WAS ELECTRIC!
He got dragged away by the cops one night for making death threats. He called me about too much noise, I explained that it was from a party behind and one property over from me but he wouldn't listen. Swore his head off in a heavy German accent so I asked him if he was an escaped German war criminal. Thats when he called the cops. They came around and asked me about it, I told them thats exactly what I said. I went on to explain the threats against me, the old fool had taped the conversation to use against me, when he played it for the cops they took him away and charged him.
I never ****ed with this guy, never gave him reason to be on my case. Just goes to show if you screw with someone for no reason Karma is gonna get you.
