I was wondering if they made any hi perf.parts for the 195 4cyl that was in the 61-63 pontiac tempest. The motor runs great I would just like to hop it up a little without changing the motor at this time.I know that it is half a 389 and valve cover and headers off a v8 will fit.Do they make a cam of anything? What about a 4barrel carb intake?Anything???
They made a 4 bbl version and the intakes turn up on ebay, but most just buy a V8 intake and saw off the unused runners and weld a plate. No over the counter cams but there are a couple outfits that have blanks and can grind you one.
I figured I would get alot of ribbing about the horns. This is the picture of the car at the dealship in breman,Ga.Yes they do play dixie,no lie!!!
The 4bbl. option was fun, be careful if you plan to use it as a daily, they don't have rebuilt the brake shoes available and you have to have yours refaced, takes a few days at NAPA.
Man, that is a sweet wagon! Years ago, I found a convertible like it in the woods. It had been there so long that a tree had grown between the open door and the body. The 4 cylinder blew my mind. Very nice. I have nothing to contribute to your parts search. Just wanted to let you know your car is awesome.
Pontiac sold Super Duty equipment for them when they were new, but it's quite scarce now. I always wondered if you could run a V8 camshaft in them and just have half of the lobes not do anything.
there were some race parts made.....probably ultra rare.....mickey thompson ran a couple cars with this motor......blown version ....injected.....and i think even one with the m/t hemi head conversion......neat wagon .....brandon
Different firing order, but there is a racer on http://forums.performanceyears.com/forums/ that used a V8 crank with caps on the unused journals and a V8 cam. A lot of info in the '61-'63 forum and a little in the race on the 195.
question, doing a 63 lemans with a 4 banger in it. found a 4 barrel intake and carb for sale. what is the cfm of the 4 barrel carb? do I need to switch pistons and cam to get any value out of the 4 barrel.
There were several different 4-barrel set-ups available. Two different Rochester 4GC's (a.k.a. 4-Jet) were available for the A.T. and S.T. street versions. These, while not having published ratings, were approximately 400 CFM. The SD (super duty) version used a 625 CFM Carter AFB. Which may have been appropriate for race-only operation (never raced mine, so don't know); but it was WAY too much for street use. I changed it out to a Carter 400 CFM AFB which REALLY improved street performance. Always wanted to find one of the early Tempests with the 215 CID aluminum V-8. I wanted to install one of the Olds Jetfire turbo setups. Never found one, and ended up selling my Tempest. Jon.
My older brother ran an X/FD dragster in the mid 60's with a 194, sold the car in about 68, would like to know what happened to it. I've looked around for a cheap 194 but don't seem to be many left. I would like to have a 194 to put in a Model A.
