Oh- I forgot to mention that the old boy had a '50 Ford convertible out back under a tarp, and two Mustangs, a '65 HiPo convertible, and a '66 fastback. In a shed that has been nailed shut for 40 yrs is a '48 Merc convertible that he hasn't even seen since then. ... We didn't get to see it either. Just amazing...

It amazes me that the old barn finds never stop showing up. In Belton Tx a street rodder friend of mine has been saving four 32 Fords(3 window coupe,roadster,2 door sedan, and PU), a 40 coupe, 51 Ford conv., 57 Bird, and about thirty 57-58 Fords for years.......but now is confined to a wheelchair and in poor health. Several years ago there was a big write-up in Old Car Weekly about his wrecking yard and old cars. I talked to his son today and some of the cars are for sale, prob. not the 32's or 40. He has Kaiser/Frazer, 55-57 Chevs., 57 Ford conv. and others. Web site for his business is www.autotrendsoftexas.com and can be contacted through it.

    BigMikeC,

 We've all seen or heard of these old guys over the years. I respect the guy for saving the cars and they will be for sale someday. Just keep going by and spend some time getting to know the old guy and any family members. He mostly likely will have some great stories about life and his old cars.
There was a very large junkyard in the desert of Southern California a few years back, loaded with old cars the guy pick up across the desert and he wouldn't sell any of them. After all they were his babies and they were all line up very nice. Well, the old guy died one day and his sons sold all the cars to car guys and collectors.
An old small repair shop in Shandon, Ca a few years back had some nice old cars in the yard, he wouldn't sell any of them didn't want hot rodders to get a hold of them. Now am a hot rodder custom guy, I went by to try by luck, hard to say what it was but he would sell me any thing I wanted.

We found something along those lines about six or seven years ago. There was this old guy in Calera OK with all these old cars in his yard. My brother and I stopped by to check out what he had. He was kind of hesitant to let us in, thinking that we were a bunch of punk kids. We were 20 and 21 at the time. But after talking to him for a while he let us in. He told us all the stuff outside was a bunch of junk but to us it was a goldmine that we could not afford were talking all kinds of old fords yes they were projects but man there was a lot of stuff. So after we walked around outside he figured out that we knew our old fords so he let us check out what was inside his storage sheds. This guy started ripping off car covers and there was all kinds of unrestored old fords. I can't remember all that was inside there but there was three buildings full of cars all fords and all v8 flathead powered. I remember a 40 vert , 35 5/w but there was a lot. I haven't been by there in years we just happened to be driving by. So does anyone from around the area know if that stuff is still there? It was on the west side of the highway between Dennison TX and Durant OK.

Awfully dry in Nebraska. I'd bet most of the cars outside are fairly solid and are not just parts cars. My 37 came from Nebraska setting beside a barn outside with grass up to the top of the fenders.
Its a solid as you'd ever want.
Wouldnt it be a blast to have enough money to buy the guy out of all of them. I'd be in 36 heaven.
I can't see why anyone would be upset with this old fellow not wanting to sell. He spent his lifetime collecting these treasures. What right do we have telling him what he needs to do with them.

All we can do... is play buzzard... and wait him out. Unless of course he has a change of heart. No pun intended. -In the mean time I am saving up my cash! -Mike

The "old" guy is my daughter-in-law's grandfather and he owns it all. Her father lives there also and watches over the old gentleman. They are awesome people but they will not sell a single car or part, I was told not to even ask. I don't understand, but it's their stuff. I would like that 3 window for myself. 1965 Mustang G.T.'s rotting, old Ford's rotting...they are loaded, so buiding a large building would be no problem but the Grandfather is set in his ways. If I think about it too much I start to feel sick about the whole situation.

On second thought, I would like the 4 door Pheaton..... It's no joke, I was told that they have one of every 1936 model ford produced. Some inside, some outside, some in storage around the area.

When I was a pup there was a guy in Norwalk, Ca. (near Excelsior High School) that had 10 or 12 old cars sitting under an old ramshackel carport like thing. He wouldn't let any of them go and one day the place caught fire and all those old cars burnt up and nobody got anything!

Bassfire, I guess you're talking about Charlie Pell there in Belton. Sorry to hear he's in such bad shape physically anyway. He was one of the old crew in the Lone Star Street Rod Association(LSSRA) hot rod club organizing days in Texas in the 70s-80s. I always enjoyed talking with him.

This is why I love living in Nebraska/the midwest. Theres farmers like that all over, some of em will sell, most wont though. Just got to wait him out and hope it works in your favor. Can't be mad at him, its his property. Guys that think like that should'nt be in the hobby, maybe should get into golf or something.

  23. cool story Mike!! man alive I'd love one of those roasters.
