I'm a few months into fixing up a 46 Ford coupe. It's my first, so I may not be the best one to ask questions ;) I hope to be on the road in 12 months or so - probably longer at the rate I'm moving. At this point I have the engine & trans installed and a rolling chassis with suspension & brakes. Next week or so I plan on starting on the exhaust & steering. Then on to cooling system, fuel tank & line, pedals. I have absolutely no interior or gauges. I'm pretty bad about documenting as I've only taken a few pictures in the 4 months I've been working on it. Feel free to ask me any specific questions you may have & I'll try & help you out.

I've got a 48, but you've probably already seen it on that "other" site.

47 business coupe. Currently at the interior shop, and it will be glossy maroon when its done, in true early 50's custom fashion.

wanting to get it low, trying to do it inexpensively, but looks like the only option is to order a kit from posies or something. Like to go
4"-5" but still be able to run stock drivetrain, keeping the rearend, wishbones and all. Also working on some flathead mods, mine looks similar to the one posted but only a single carb now.

Here's my '47. I've had it on the road about 2 years now after a 30 year slumber. Still sporting old paint and such. Running isky cam, and edmunds goodies.

The coupe I have had a few years. I have been collecting parts for it since last year. In fact I went to look at some parts and came home with the sedan (and parts) last october. I plan on lowering the sedan. I am going to leave the straight axle and banjo. Dress up the flatty and hopefully get the interior done (late 50s style).

Just finished painting a 47 ford coupe, molded in the rockers and rear fenders and roll pan, shot flat black. It's got nova front sub and sits pretty nice, drives well.
    What style you goin for?

Been working on a '47 for a bit now. New inner rockers front to rear on both sides were the biggest headche. EHS ( I think that was their name, can check if you need it)in Cleveland makes a nice piece for this, each side actually comes in 3 separate pieces.

Completely re-wired but still 6-volt. Also installed a mono-leaf in the front, gave it a 4" drop. Have one for the rear as well and will put it in this wihter. Original drive train, stripped off virtually all the trim and filled the holes. I'll try and get some pics up.

Hey Vic, were those 2 '46's here on the Island?

While it is not a complete "project car" it is going to get redone. We are still trying to make some plans as to color, wheels tires etc....

Great Pics...anyone got one sitting real low? I would love to see or hear about someone that is still pretty stock and found a good cost effective solution to lower it 5" or more.

  23. The Posies kit gets the front end down low enough that I'm going to have to think twice about speed bumps, at least 5" lower.

I switched to open drive with an 8" and I put the SAC parallel leaf kit in the back, it's about 1.5" higher in the back than level. Mine's a Tudor. No REAL pics yet, but I'll be taking and posting some over Christmas break.

Fake pic, Photochopped to how low it is now. The front clip hasn't been on it in years.

Mine is going to be basically a stock body ride. Has a 3" CE drop tube axle, nova rear end, 350/350 drivetrain. Nothing fancy, just a driver to have a lot of fun and cruise the country with.

Rockers have all been replaced from to rear, Hand fabbed most of it, but bought Drakes panels for the door opening. Patched up the trunk floor. Just finished welding up the bizillion holes in the firewall and getting it finshed off and in Primer. The floor pans top and bottom plus the interior has been flat blacked.

There are TONS of photos and weekly updates of everything we have done here:

I was going to post these yesterday but ran out of time... (yes, the wheels are going away, they are only for rolling it around the shop...)

  28. I have a project 48 buried back in the shop. I've had some serious thoughts of selling it to someone that will get it back on the road. but everytime I look at it "It's still my Dream Car"

can't get a straight axle car low enough for me, and I won't budge on the Chromed Front axle. I've got a 4" dropped axle, Posie's indadirt reversed eye spring, 4" raised front cross member and It's still not down where I want it in the front. the back is C'd with Pete and Jakes ladder bars and coil overs. I sat the frame on the rear axle when I set up the rear suspension then C notched for clearance. front and rear roll pans and no bumpers. I just picked up a 41 front clip and I like the thin 41 bumpers may or may not get installed.

I have made the decision to channel it a couple inches to have it sit where I want it.

It's got a 56 354 Hemi that was dropped in there in 1958. A Clutch-flite and 9 inch ford round out the drive train.

I started with a Business coupe that I Chopped the A pillars 6 inches. Cut the whole roof loose and moved it forward to line up the A-pillars. then I moved the B-pillars back 8 1/2 inches and installed sedan doors. I cut up 6 doors to make two the way I wanted. So I now have a 48 3-window coupe that has sat in my shop since 1993.
also welded the trunk closed and moved the leading edge forward 13 inches and have a rumble seat. the one thing I regret looking back is the 1966 912 electric sliding sun roof. it fits beautiful but is not period correct.

I have a 48 Buick wrap around dash (narrowed 9 inches) and door frames. gives a great feeling inside. The Hemi is set back 12 inches and the roof slid forward 4 1/2 inches. then a package tray from a 47 tudor sedan makes the car look like a factory 48 ford Three window. I cut 7 roof sections on each side to get the factory drip rails to wrap around the doors instead of over the 1/4 windows (that I don't have any more) and back to the trunk (that I don't have more either) I started with the most rust free cherry original car and look at it now. such a shame!

There are a ton of other mods like widening the rear fenders and moving them up on the body and molding them in with the welded trunk makes the best looking 48 ford ass end I've ever seen. I love the car just can't find the time and money (at the same time) to finish it

Hey Noname - Awesome project. Love the look. If I didn;t already have a prostreet, totally inpractical car, I would be doing mine alot like yours. But I need a long distance driver. Anway, nice project. It'll be great when it gets done!

  30. 47 TUDOR,
this is my long haul touring car. the last trip I made in the 48 was 16 weeks and 3300 miles. was running stock suspension (with 4 inch axle) and brakes. decided to update it a bit. I sold my Quick change and going with a gear vendors over drive instead. had a 3500 stall that I smoked on that trip. thats the reason for the clutch flite with a full lock up and runs cooler. just need some lighter valve springs for the long haul. this car will be driven to MOKAN and Bonneville.
