My 235 is at the machine shop now for a rebuild. He primed the oiling system and it has 45 lbs of oil pressure but is not getting oil to the rocker assembly and no internal oil passage was found. Do we need to use an external oiling system or is there an oil passage being overlooked?

no, the external filter system is independent and doesn't HAVE to be hooked up. inliners.org has a great write up on how to make it a full flow system, what better time than while at the machine shop!

there were changes to the block in the late 50s, might help to know what year the block is, and also what type lifters it has. The later blocks don't work with earlier lifters.

block casting date should be on the right rear of the block, look for a letter followed by two or three numbers, like B 14 8 which would translate as b = second month, february, 14th day of the month, and 8 is the last digit of the year, which would be 58.

Squirrel, the block isn't local right now but I'll see if I can't get the machinist to find the numbers.

Thaks, 53sled, Inliners does have a really nice write up.
