Hey folks, Someone mentioned that they didn't like a sprung seat on a swingarm frame a while back. I realize that it can break your back, but I think they were talking about style. What are some of the things that you don't think work together? Here's some stuff that USUALLY doesn't work for me, even thou I've done some of them. I realize we all have different styles and what works for one person might not for another(example:King and Queen seats), so don't get pissed if you have one or more of the following. If your happy, I'm tickled pink. Knuckleheads in a stock swingarm or wishbone frame Knuckleheads with a wideglide frontend Swingarm frames with stock springer frontends LONG frontends with fat front tires
Man! I sure didn't need to see that pic 3 times. Urk! Back on topic, I think blackwalls don't work on post war customs.
Spotlights on any car other than a squad. Hate me if you want to, I can't stand the things. Alternators on truly traditional rods. Yes, I understand the reasons for using them, but the visual dichotomy of it bothers me. And some would argue that love and marriage don't work together either... but I'm staying out of that argument.
Damn, couldn't make it to the garbage can?! Anything 1965 and up with WWW, red wheels, and spraybomb flat-black paint. You know who you are.... Actually there's a whole lot 1955 and up that shouldn't either...
Is it better to gut a generator and make a small alternator look like a generator? Lakes pipes not actually hooked to the exhaust in any way. Moon tanks in front but no fluid, much less gas in them. Body color Painted Chrome. Graphiti styled lettering on the trunk. Bright Neon or red painted interiors with flat black outside paint. Haven't seen many Continental kits I like.
Regular brake fluid in a painted master cylinder. Two words: paint stripper. Use silicon brake fluid instead.
sure, I'll race ya with my 97 olds 88 and we'll see who wins. if I wanted a race car I woulda built one. If I wanted to build a 50's hotrod it would have a period transmission. in fact I have two. one flatty powered and one with a 283. both got 39 trannies behind em. and guess what the flatty+39 ****** has been together for 15 years and is on it's 3rd rear end
flatheads with late model trannies and open drive rears I can understand a t-5 ******, but why not an open drivetrain out of a mid 50's car? Say a 55 ford rearend with a three speed and borg warner overdrive?
Open wheel cars with lower profile (radial type)tires Spiderwebs on anything other than my attic walls. 20 inch or higher wheels on anything earlier than 1970.
Spandex either...big no no... Non functional multi-carbs open wheel cars with radials fake magnetos non-functioning blowers
the only open rear behind a flathead should be if it's in a shoebox or a truck that came with one. very few rods were built like that. usually if they went open drive they also pulled the complete driveline out of the same car.
Holy ****, does this mean I have to repaint my hotrod with a spray gun flat black to cover the rattle can black and the spider webs? And do I have to get some vinyl die to cover the bright red interior. ****, I guess while I'm doin it I can take the 23" red wheels with wide whites off while I have the car in the air replacing my open drive line with a closed setup, which should be pretty easy as I will have it out anyway to change the late model trans on my flatty. Oh darn, I just remembered I need to get that fake generator that houses my alternator off also while I am making my other 4 carbs funtional on my 5 deuce setup. Boy, am I glad you guys helped me out with this as I didn't read the book on shoulds and should nots. Hey..any more stuff I might have screwed up on? Thanks for the help guys, the ****ster
Anyone else get prompted to log in to "DeSotoLand DeSpatch..." when opening this thread? THAT doesn't work with the HAMB. Bryan
yeh i got the desoto land thing....wierd. oh and any steering column that isnt just a tube in any hot rod.
