This is how I took four inches out of the back fenders. I am sure there are a lot easier ways to do this but with my limited metal working skills this is what I done. The fenders aren’t in great shape so I figured it would be a good time to try my hand at cutting four inches out of them. The first two pictures are (first full & then 4” taken out with PSP).

I laid out two lines at the 4” mark and cut on the top mark so the tabs could be trimmed to fit when welding it back together

The inside corner also gets a horizontal cut to make the transition easier
    [IMG]

I cut 2 ½” below the fender brace bolt

I cut the lower part of the slits with a 3” cutoff disc and used metal shears to cut the top of the slits to control the width of the slit when welding it together

Tacking it back together and you can see the tabs that need trimmed to fit

This shows the inside corner where the horizontal cut was made to make blending in the two pieces easier

Finished until the rest of the fender is finished

Maybe this will help someone and it might also show my lame attempt at fender work.

This would help out anyone considering the change on a lowboy chassis too.
    Thanks!

  8. Looks good, bobed fenders improve the rear look on coupes and especially sedans. Good photos too.

  9. Nice work, much cleaner and neater look.

Dont doubt the quality of your work. I am always more impressed with the guy that goes out there and does it and not the one that just talks about it or contracts it out. the only way to get better is to get out in the shop and do it (which you did). Great job and thanks for sharing to all of us. I turned out nice with alot smoother transition.

Thanks for sharing your info with us. Looks good to me. Are you satisfied with the length? I was thinking about making mine about 1"-1 1/2" shorter than yours, however, I know that sometimes the pictures are a little deceptive. I think you did good.

Aman you could go shorter but if it was me going shorter I would cut the slits in the lower piece longer to help the transition fit.

    Thanks Vergil

I'm sorry dirty31 for not posting finished pictures but I didn't have enough room where I was working to do a picture but now I can post one.

I started a fender doing a similar thing on my sedan. but I butchered it up real good, did my cut to low and could not get it to line up well enough.. but I found a replacement (2 actually) to give it another shot..

I was thinking 5" myself -- went out to the garage today and after some measuring I figured hell if you're gonna bob 'em, BOB 'em.
I took out seven inches ...

here's before and after (not welded up yet...)

Thanks Rochie -- and with the lip of the fenders lifted, it shows off the wide rear tires nicely.
