http://webridestv.com/movie_v2.aspx?movieid=87 Cool idea, but poor execution IMO. I was pretty intrigued to come across this because my friend and I have been talking about building an old CJ Jeep rod lately (as has been discussed here), but these guys just missed the mark. Proportions are all wrong, TOYOTA stickers everywhere, and what's with the tank on the front? It's trying to be all things hot rod and it just dosn't work. Opinions?
I saw that too and instantly didn't like it. I've only seen a few Jeep rods I can tolerate. I'm a wheeler too (CJ7), but mixing them is a careful balance IMO and not for someone who doesn't have a clue about design, proportion, balance and taste.
I'm with you Comet. My buddies are all wheelers and rodders and we want to build something that mixes both. I would be interested to see the Jeep rods that you deem tolerable. I have only seen a couple on here an wasn't thrilled by any of them. BTW I like to think we could pull it off--we both have a pretty good sense of proportion since our days job is being a product designer.
it doesn't look too bad untill you see the front end. very few off road vehicles make good hotrods. the only jeep i ever thought looked good as a hotrod was a 50s jeep truck that had been chopped, channeled, had the bed shortened, and was sitting on an s-10 frame.
I don't like it. You make Land Cruisers and Jeeps go up, not down. I did see a Jeep YJ drag car a few months back. It was pretty cool, but still didn't look right. Kris
I love the idea of it for a SEMA show car... Very cool that Toyota would fund such craziness and I bet it was fun for that guy to build. That said, it's not something I would ever build for myself and not something I would be too fired up about seeing anywhere other than SEMA.
True, it must have been nice to build a car with Toyota backing you and giving you the new NASCAR Toyota engine to go in it.
Ryan hit the nail on the head, but... As a speed freak, I wouldn't mind getting behind the wheel of ANYTHING that probably weighs in a 2000 lbs, and makes 750 hp, especially with a 4 speed. WOW
I hate it, it exemplifies what I dislike the most about Japanese maufacturers. Wow, stealing an American idea and trying to improve on it, that's original. Absolutely no soul whatsoever.
LAME!!!!!! Post that peice of****** material on the DUB magazine forums. I used to have a great 1970 FJ40. Sorry to post O/T but here is a few pics. My Vizsla Mickey. He loves the camera. Swapped the 3 speed non syncro trans for a late model 4 speed. And to piss off every Toyota dude i flipped the headligh bezel piece. East Barnard,VT. What a place! Just a fun beater. And yes, that is an awesome maple stand.
Whatever, your talking about "cliche" nice 32 avatar. The cab of the FJ45 has great lines. While the example pic is a bit catalogish, it flows. Minus the trade mark fiberglass roof. and yes the moon tank and steelies say "im proving it" but why the hell not?
I was looking at a Series 1 Landrover short wheelbase closed cab pickup on a farm near here not long back. I can have it for free if I want it, and it's an aluminium body so there's no sheetmetal rust to worry about, although the old chassis is pretty far gone. The nice thing about these is the Series 1 were first released in 1948, so they're gennie 'pre-48' hotrod material. I was thinking jacked up, SBC, 5 speed manual and forget the front driveshafts, straight front axle and a 9" diff at the rear. Could be a slightly 'different' project. Cheers, Glen.
