Do new Halibrand wheels really suck?

Would you buy a set of used "new" Halibrand wheels? Are these, in fact, Chineese made?

I'd buy them, but they would have to be priced below another brand I want first.

I thought they were made in Australia (a little south of the Chicoms).

If they run true, a wheel is pretty much a wheel..... I think.

6 windows are really throwing them off for me though.

    Otherwise, a good looking set.

you could always just give them to me...I'll find a use for them;) hehehe...yeah, the 6 window pattern just doesn't look right...but hell, I'd still run em...now buying them brand new if they're made overseas, probably not...but then again I rarely buy anything brand new anyway...

Kinda like a chick with three ****s...

  6. Are you sure those are Halibrand wheels?????

I have never seen 6 lug halibrands, or something that large of a diameter.

Maybe they do make them, I just haven't seen them.

I thought they were cool looking too.

I was wondering if the wheels had real problems ....or if the Halibrand bashing of a couple of years ago was because of customer service/miscellaneous ********.

Those wheels are 6 lug wheels, and most likely were on the Dakota they are leaning against. Not a bunch of 6 lug hot rods.

I had also heard that the "new" Halibrand wheels are offshore manufactured.Search Halibrand on Ebay, they have been running some auctions lately. They have some interesting things to say on there.

They are made in China. If they were made in the states I would consider buying a set.

If you got something old that they would fit on then go for it. Those tend to look less than stellar on newer vehicles. If you had a Speed Record styled T with the right lug pattern they would be excellent.

They are made in China. Saw them at SEMA last year and asked that question directly and was told they're made in China (boxes were also marked accordingly). I've bumped into the Halibrand folks a couple of other times (at HRR Show, etc.) and between what I saw, their **** at***ude, and what I've heard from others, I wouldn't do business with them. Just my .02 worth.

You could always use them to hang your air or garden hoses.

If you like them ... and you can lay your hands on them when you buy them ... go for it ... :)

But I would NOT TRUST Halibrand to ship them ...

I was at the NATS in Kentucky 05 ... on Thursday before noon ... They had a whole display full of Halibrand boxes ( supposedly full of wheels  )
and they offered to sell me a set ... and ship them. I said I would pay now and take them with me ( Ca$h and Carry ) ... he said he did not have any 5 on 4and 1/2 pattern wheels with him ... only 5 on 4 and 3/4  I smelled a RAT ...

I waited about a hour and got a friend to go and try and buy a set of Halibrands with the 5 on 4 and 3/4 pattern. They were out ... only had wheels with the 5 on 4 and 1/2 pattern ... Which Lie was it ... or did any of the boxes have wheels in them ???

If you're driving a late model car, chances are the aluminum wheels are made in china. Unfortunately, the new chinese wheel plants all have new foundries and new tooling, and we are teaching them how to make good products. So, the quality of the stuff from there is really pretty good, in some cases really good...Sad that we cant compete with their low wage.

Steel wheels are no better...try Brazil..

Thank Wal Mart next time you're shopping there.

When you think about it, the original Halibrand wheels were nothing to write home about either, with their sand cast magnesium that used to leak air right through the wheel. Not to mention trying to keep em polished. Granted, that was 50 year old technology ....... I sold my big window set in a moment of weakness around 12 years ago and I still regret it. Live and learn.:(

I don't think anybody would think they are vintage Halibrands with 17x8 front and 18x8 rear sizes. (I wish they were skinnier)

They were cool looking, cheap wheels and tires that will work on the Dodge.

"My experience with the new Halibrand " I bought a set of 18" Halibrand sprints on e bay from Halibrand a year or two back . Included in the price was custom offset for my vehicle , I talked to Richard the owner directly on the phone , told him what the wheels were going on , he said "I had one just like that , I know just what you need " So they show up , they were beautiful looking wheels . Put them on , fronts rub like crazy , rears are about 3 or 4 " from the fender , looks like *** . Call him back up , at***ude , not his fault , blah blah . I had to pay for shipping 4 times , back and forth twice trying to get it right . At***ude , phone calls , and more phone calls staying on them trying to get it done . More at***ude , I had to pay for the second set of outers . All said and done I think I had about $1500 in the set of wheels , they were beautiful and MADE the car . Their list price was like $2000 or something , so it was still less even after all the B.S. I had to find special lugs that they didn't have and didn't tell me about . I mean , it was a h***le , but they ended up *****in after all . People there have ****ty at***ude also , doing you a big favor I guess . Bottom line , wheels didn't **** but the people did . Just my personal experience and opinion .

We bought them yesterday morning. They look really good. There are no blemishes that I can find.

We got lucky, the front wheels are actually 7" wide instead of the 8" they were advertised as.

They will look right on the dodge.

Not only were the fronts a different size from what was listed on ebay (17x7 vs 17x8), the rears were also different (18x9.5 vs 18x8). You'd think somebody could pick up on a 2.5" difference in width between the two.

I feel lucky we got them for the price we did.
