All good points... I was at the SEMA show and I walked around this car and all I could think about was "prowler on steriods" , our whole car culture revolves around what ever the main stream design studios decide to produce, what if detroit designers had gone another direction in 1936? our cars today would look totally different. Foose is an artist that grew up in a custom shop, although his style is not my cup of tea I can see that his sema creations take things to the next level, but I totally agree that the overhaulin cars are just cookie cutter streetrods designed to sell the products used in the build, there is no rule that says that the current "golden boy" has to blow our minds every time. on that note I saw Jimmy Shine at sema and he has a new show coming up on TLC, I wonder how that will change the traditional hotrod climate? I also saw Bo Huff there getting the rock star treatment at the Ol Skool booth.
Ed Roth was my hero.....but Chip Foose is the Ed Roth of today.....Just like Big Daddys "Triple headers".... Chip can imagine it.....he can draw it....he can build it. Very few people today have that much talent....oh wait, except for me of course...and if you believe that......................
I think if Chip had finished this car 15 years ago when it was in the concept stage it would have blowen some minds, but now it just looks like 50 other cars you see at a Goodguys show.Dont get me wrong I have a lot of respect for his talent and skill, just look at the P-32!. Anyway glad to see he finally got it done.
My favorite car at SEMA was the Dynamat "32 DynaLiner" they drove it over 2000 miles to display it in their booth. http://www.dynamat.com/dynaliner_gallery_dynaliner_driven_dirty.html
I don't mind complaints against the Japs... But I wonder why cars like this are even debated here, on a trditional hot rod and custom forum. Chip is super-talented, as are all the guys I saw on T.V. building this car. But what does it have to do with us? And why do these off-topic threads about T.V. shows, burglars, and drunk drivers always get a shit-load of response, when a lot of threads with legit tech questions don't get shit?
If Roth had built it the day before he died, you would all be "Ga-Ga" over it.................Just because Foose built it, its no good....... Roths cars were not traditional in their day either. It's not traditional....Wah, Wah, Wah................ Some people like all forms of custom cars, hot rods etc..........try and appreciate something............You might learn something.
I get what you're saying, and I don't really mind talking about a car that sort of resembles an old car... But I see the other side of the coin too... This car is definately O/T... The HAMB has never been about "all forms of custom cars, hot rods etc..." Sometimes exceptions are made...
I think my point is that , we post cars on here and then mock them.........no matter how much work went into it. I don't think that's right. If you want a "Traditional Hot Rod" website, maybe, these types of posts should not be on here to start with then. I consider myself an oldtime hotrodder to an extend, not as much as some of the people here that are 1/3 my age.........but, I can also appreciate what goes into building a car.............unlike some of those same traditionalists that are 1/3 my age......
umm you posting here makes this thread go on longer, if you dont like the thread dont post in it, and you knew what the thread was about before you even opened it, so you blasting people about this thread is pointless.....and give it up about the "japs" already.
Hey, look at that... Foose Plowboy'd a Avanti! And at least this thing doesn't have the IFS suspension brackets hanging outside of the Bodywork.
BIGNick59.....wow 50 mid engine 1off cars were at the Goodguys show. Hope you took pictures. C'mon the guy is a true talent. We can debate whether it belongs here on the HAMB but 70+ posts and climbing. I think CAR people like to talk about a lot of different stuff even though we are focused on the old stuff
i think that the cool thing about chip foose is that he does his own thing. i think he could build some sick traditional cars but might be held back by the lable. any one of us could build a " traditional " car as well as him with the money he has to do it. it is the other things he does, this car, and the riddler winners that make his stuff special. it is hard to use "Never-ever done before" and "traditional" in the same sentence i think the car is cool.
I have to agree - the car is nice. And this isn't exactly the best place to bring pics of modern style rods. Foose rocks. And I may be more than a little critical of the big rimmed look. ...course I live in Iowa - we don't see them around here much. In fact - I can't remember how long it's been since I have seen a set of really large dia. rims. Plus the snow is coming - so there you go. Hell those are probably concidered small in Cali. And Foose is definately trying to push the envelope - rather than draw from the past - on this one so...maybe I'll tip my hat a little more. The car is okay.
You know, I don't think even Chip Foose is as hyper-sensitive about his cars as some of you are. I'm sure he won't cry himself to sleep tonight because someone said the cars were Boydster-ish or that you don't like the the roofline or something. People are allowed to have a differing opinion, lest they be sheeple. Chip Foose, I am sure is good people. I understand that he is an artist, fabricator, ambassador and hail fellow well met for the whole hotrodding industry. That said, the hot rods he designed for Boyd are too antiseptic for me, to me a row of samey-same billet '32s are no more inspiring than the rows of refridgerators at Home Depot. To me, all of this is no different than saying you don't like coffee ice cream. Shall I jump your ass for that? WTF?
Maybe after you've been around here for a few years, you will understand what this place is about.....Some people compare it to a bunch of guys shootin the shit in a garage....all topics will come up....and may get either alot of discussion, or none at all. Traditional hot rods and customs are the major focus, and the off topic stuff either dies away or is deleted by management.....deal with it or hit the "unsubscribe" tab.....in other words...quit the whinin.
Also, Richard D just because you got to the garage half an hour ago and you ramble on and on doesn't mean any of us are really listening.
Not A Car That I Like But Chip Has Tons Of Talent I Just Would Like To See Him Do More Cars That Fit The Taste Of The People Of The Hamb
