My grandmother p***ed away on Wednesday morning at 4:30 a.m. CT. This subject isn't directly car related, however, she was born in 1919, and through the viewing of several of her childhood photos, there were images of here in model a tire swings, and model A's on her parents farm, when she was groing up. The best part was that they palyed Tennesse Ernie Ford at her funeral, because she really enjoyed his music. Ironically, I listen to Ford too. I guess my point in this message is that growing up, you don't really know much about your Grandparents and what they like. Then when you become an adult and a parent, things start to fall into place and make sense. You then realize that your parents and Grandparents are actually pretty kool and their lifes had subjects in them that actually are intrests of your life as well. It's like everything just runs full circle. Well, I am just mumbling at this point.
The one thing my grandfather thought was stupid was messing with old cars. He's be THRILLED to see my yard today...
She lived a long life! My mother was also born in 1919. She was a surprise baby after my grandfather came home from the war. My grandfather and grandmother were in their mid 40's, ha. I say your granny lived a long life, because my mother p***ed away on Christmas 14 years ago. You're right about the photographs. It's hard to think they were kids once too, and all the things that happened to them growing up. My condolances, Recardo
After reading this I flashed back on my grandfathers photos, and could almost see yours. Full circle... yeah, kind of a reminder that we're part of that too, and that's not such a bad thing when we still feel connected to those who came before us.
My heart goes out to you for your loss. People like your grandmother and Tennessee Ernie Ford are from another day and time, and the world is going to miss them. May God be with you at this time.
Laid my grandma to rest today. She was born in 1911 so she was 17 when Wyatt Earp died, damn that's old. My pop was killed 7 years ago and with the family spread out like it is, we don't seem to see everyone unless someone gets married or dies. Anyway my old man was a hooligan and you talking about memories made me think of this story I was told by one of my uncles... My dad had a freind named Willy LePlant who had a '57 Chevy (stick with me here.) Willy's family was really well off and every year he would go down to the local dealership and get whatever the baddest engine was at the time and put it in the '57. After some gears and a 4 speed he had the baddest car in town. One of their favorite past times was messing with the local cop who would always park in the same spot outside of town and catch people on their way in who didn't slow down in time for his speed trap. Willy my pop would ride around him and get that chevy moving as fast as they could. They'd blow by him doing way over a hundred so by the time the cop got on the road they were in town parked having a smoke. Well, in '62 if they didn't catch you speeding, you weren't speeding. But the cop knew who it was and would always find them and chew them out with the old "if I ever catch you two.." ****. This went on most of a summer when the cop decided he'd had more then he could handle. The next time they had their fun the cop wrote them each tickets for "deliquincy." They knew it was ******** so they just threw them away. Four weeks later this cop shows up at my Dad's job and arrests him for not paying the fine and hauls him away. My dad damands to see the local judge and this is fine by the officer. They walk into the judge's office and the cop knows this isn't gonna' go his way when the judge sees my dad and asks, "What seems to be the trouble Bobbie?" "Well this officer is trying to stick me with a bogus ticket Mr. LePlant." The judge was Willy's dad. After very little riggamaroo, he fines my dad $1 and tells the cop, "Their good boys, just having a little fun."
I wish I knew more of my grandparents. I was young and dumb and didnt take the time. I regret it. My condolences and prayers. I will pray for peace and comfort on your family.
To all of you, I really appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Norrie, I am very sorry for your loss as well as others in the past. I have to admit, I thought this Grandmother would always be around. Then, when they do p*** on, life starts to come into focus and you realize as an adult, that you are not here for ever. As a matter of fact, life is a mere second compared to eternity. Wow, I could babble for hours. Again, thanks for your support, I wish you all the best of the Holiday Seasons. Best of luck on your winter garage projects.
