Leno should get off his *** and take out the rocket-bike. I'd love to see what it could do in open land.

If I remember the sales litrature correctly, I think it is supposed to top out around 250. One thing's for certain, I know I wouldnt have the balls to ride a bike that fast on the salt...

Here's one for y'all.... When I was still living in Austin, I worked for a company called Mototek, an Aprilia motorcycle dealership.

One of our best customers was a guy by the name of Van. He and his wife, Cathy, run a pair modified RS-50 two stroke bikes on the salt. He'd buy up cranks, rods and pistons by the tons, and damn near cleaned us out of all our carbs with one order.

Anyway... A 50cc, two stroke, running in the mid 80's to low 100's!!! Definitely a sight to see!!

There's a nice little write up on Aprilia USA's page if yer interested.

And for those of you couch bound, from injuries or bad weather, grab a copy of "The World's Fastest Indian" with Anthony Hopkins. A true story about a Kiwi named Burt Munro, and his life long dream at setting a land speed record on the hallowed salts of Bonneville. Great movie!! ...And his record stands to this day!!

    I'll second both of those.

Worlds Fastest Indian is one of the best movies i have ever seen.

The 2-stroke 50 is pretty cool too. I thought about getting something like that when the gas prices shot up a year or so ago. I think I ended up finding something even faster and cooler (read: bigger) - but only because I have highway travel in my commute. I never actually bought a new bike -just tossed around the idea. I found a few new favorites - the TRZ Yamaha (extinct in the US) and the Derbi GPR & GPR ****.

Derbi is a subsidiary of Piaggio. It might be a chore to find one - but I have seen them on ebay so they must be around somewhere:

Watching the second 1/2 as I'm surfing the HAMB. Good Background!
That standup scooter thing did over a buck. I'd feel safe in a streamliner at 3 times that.
