OK, I know I can get an engine to run backwards by changing out the cam [and a few other issues].. but lets say I hook this engine up to an automatic tranny. What issues am I gonna have with the transmission if the engine spins the opposite direction? I'm asking because I have an idea for a front wheel drive bellytank..
I'd say forget it. (running th trans backwards) There may be other ways to achieve what you want though. Mart.`
There is one front drive streamliner at Bonneville that runs an Olds Tornado transaxle. He has been 315 that I know of, maybe more.
TH425's run backwards, and they are nothing more than a TH400 with a reversed sprag. However, the torque convertor might be the main issue; if not the pump; though you can use a power steering pump for trans fluid, you will have some plumbing issues with that, getting to the right passages and all... FWIW, most Citroën trans are set up for 'backwards' use, but most are not capable of transmitting "entertaining" amounts of horsepressure. Cosmo
They built Corvairs with automatics and Corvairs are reverse rotation motors. Just ask anybody who ever put one in a VW.
Don't know if this will help, but some Honda car engines of the 80s- 90s ran backwards from the rest of the world so the trans. should be accordingly. (?)
