SO... how would this work on a 50s chevy pickup? I found a truck I like and MAY possibly buy (we'll see) and im not against using the stock frame on it but if i can put my s10 frame to use it would be much easier to bag and put a v8 in but again no biggie. Would the 50s pickup be easier to use my frame with than what we've discussed with a 49-54 chevy car?

  3. Yes...the 50's pickup is easy to do compared to the car.

Thanks, I just found the thread kustombuilder did about moving the suspension back on an s10 frame to work with a 50s truck and i was very impressed and i'm still doing some searching to find more info. I emailed the owner of the truck I found so I'm waiting to hear back from him also. I can't say thanks enough for how helpful the people are on here wow.

if you have any questions i may be able to help being in the middle of doing TWO of those trucks on S10 frames right now. Clark did a great piece a while back. you can prolly find it in the tech archives. lots of good info. i used it as my starting point and made some slight changes along the way. just PM if you have any specific questions that you can't find in any of these threads or if you need clarification. i'm on night shift this week so be patient with me.

This is the project I am presently working on the s10 long bed has the same wheel base the rear end is a bid too narrow the ones from a 4x4 s10 blazer is a bolt in and the correct width. there is a place that even makes a total bracket kit in central calif. I do believe the 54 has a differant frame dimension that may not ba as good a match up. I understand some of the problem is in the headers and the steering shaft want to be in the same place but there are headers that the steering column will p*** through.

i used a shortbed frame . i had to shorten the bed 7 inches. i think it looks better short... i am in the middle of a 5" chop right now. it definetely looks cool laying runningboards.

yeah i think it looks cooler to shorten the bed then make the frame longer to keep the long bed, laying running boards is a must. you should toss up some pictures of your truck if ya get a chance

it'll look good with the 5" chop and the shortened bed but the stock roof and short bed looks kinda goofy (in my opinion). i'm shortening my bed but i did a 4 1/2" chop first. i also leaned the windshield pilars back instead of lengthening the roof. it's a little more complicated but it looks better on these trucks when you get to chopping much more than 3 1/2" or so out. plus you don't have to weld all the way across the roof TWICE. i've seen so many of these trucks with heavy chops and the posts at the stock angle and they look way too boxy. it just totaly ruins the look of the truck for me.

we moved the rear suspension back on Dan's cause he is not certain if he will chop his or not and as tall as that stock roof is it would totaly throw the proportions out of whack to have the shorter bed and stock roof height. thats our opinions anyways.

No chop or bed length change on ours. Yet. Started life as a 54 3100 and an X cab S10 from Kustombuilder (don't ask ME why he was selling...)

Next one might get chopped up, just learning the techniques.

I'm using a 68 El Camino rear axle on this one.

Go to the TECH ARCHIVES, there is a way to sort by THREAD, search FRAME and it is there. I printed it off and keep it by my bed at night...

Glad to see you finally on here, man. To make the "intro police" happy, you'll want to do an intro (Top thread on first page of the forum). This is the place to find out what you need to do about the S10 frame under your F100.
