I Needed a hump in the floor to clear the quickchange. Got a trailer fender from the local tractor supply store for the compound curve. Heavy 16 ga material. Had to remove the zinc/galvanized plating prior to welding Made the 1" flanges from 16 ga. Bent the side flanges "the hard way" by clamping the material between two pieces of square tubing and applying pressure in a arbor press, working it back and forth, until the gentle radius was formed. Hand bent the filler panels from 18 ga and welded the ***embly. Other photo is the ****** hump started. The large radius was formed by tacking and clamping the material to the work bench and bending over teh workbench edge (the radiused edge happened to match the fender). Sharp bends were made by clamping the material, and bending with the armstrong method and body hammer. Obviously I do not have a brake or shear or shrinker stretcher (yet) but you can find some of the shapes you need in some neat places. Would be interesting to see other creative uses of existing forms or shapes. Later
You've been busy *******. Are those Sharpie stripes on the tailpan? Sorry Bro, I thought it would be better comming from me than another one of the hoodlums.
Nice, look very clean. An old timer told me once that they used to use old gas tanks and cut them up to make hump out of them...... Don
Yeah, Sharpies. Haven't got the Macks out in a long long time. May get around to that this winter too.
Gas tanks, the old flip top school desks, BBQ grill tops and wheel borrows all have really nice shapes to em.
Heard of the wheel barrow, the flip top desk is a great idea. I just got rid of one of those about a year ago...never gave it a thought!
