I did a post on 2 lane black top yesterday because I had downloaded the movie a few days ago. I just can't get that 55 out of my head! The opening scenes to that movie- attitude, sounds, styles, etc.- just keep coming to my mind. All day at work, while trying to keep kids from cutting their hands off with the bandsaw, I thought of that scene (see my signature). When I left work to get my little girl, I put in my Mad Fabricators CD and listened to #4 over and over.....this song opens with the dialog that is in my signature......and I just kept thinking on the way home about how cool a 4spd. 55 with a hot little SBC would be......nothing fancy......just like the one my wife's uncle just bought.....hot little 283, lumpy cam, 4spd and fenderwell headers. He bought it for a song. I was hoping he'd pass so I would get a shot. Ah, shucks, I didn't have the $$ anyway... Well, I switched back to the radio to try and get it out of my head....... A few miles later, I passed a local street rodder/drag racers house- I ALWAYS look in to see what he's doing- and what was sitting in his driveway??? A 55 chevy! No crap! About a week ago, it was a nice looking black primer but he put some florescent green on it......that's ok, it's still a 55! I come in the house, lay my little girl down for her Nap, open my email.......guess what......Ryan's editorial was the only email........what was the topic.....a blood rushing, first hand experience of a driving a hot little 55! Uh, is there a 55 in my future? I really want a supercharged flatty in an A coupe........and a XS650.......and a 32........and a 36....... I could easily justify a 55.......I could take my wife, 2 year old and the unborn one with me to the cruise-ins and car shows....... I can't get this out of my head....thanks Ryan!
If you want that 55 to run on the highway, can the 4 speed and put in a 5 speed. That overdrive is sooooooooooo nice, you will never look back. Good Luck, we be pulling for ya.
Flathead Youngin' , I guess these pictures won't help much with your problem but I'll post them anyway. You should remember them since you were close by when I took them. John Chinn's 55 that he's owned for a couple decades now. Bought it from the school teacher who bought it new.
Biggest automtive mistake I ever made(I've made numerous)was not buying a 55 in the next town, completely redone except the 60's diamond tuft interior, drove great, oldest son remembers test driving it and what a glorious ride it was,i hesitated and another guy in town bought it.now i get to see it on a regular basis. want one! steele
are you ok??? on medication??? fall down a flight of stairs??? the valves are upside down and the fenders don't unbolt.... I'll put in a notice to Ryan...gona have to change your name Overhead Youngin' i hope you come out of this....maybe its just a nightmare and you'll wake up soon Zach **i felt a rumble as Henry Ford just rolled over in his grave**
