I worked for years in the oil and chemical industry, and we used Teflon tape and Teflon paste on our process lines. Two things to be aware of if you use the tape...... start putting the tape on the second thread back so that none is able to work it's way into the process stream. Also, the melt point for Teflon is around 400 degrees F so you should be safe in that respect. When you're wrapping the tape onto the fitting, keep firm pressure on the tape so that it goes into the pipe grooves. Don't use a lot of tape either, 1 1/2 to 2 wraps will be good and wrap it on the opposite way the fitting threads in.
If it's a flare type AN fitting, using tape on the threads is a waste of time. Your seal is on the flare, not the threads of the fitting.
If you have to take it apart, don't try and put the pipe fitting back in again unless you re-tape it. All that shredded Teflon has the possibility of making it's way into the process. Good luck.

  4. Use Loc***e PST part number 565,567 or 569. 565 and 567 are the most common ones. 569 is for hydraulic. 565 is good tp 300deg F, 567 to 400 deg F and 569 to 300 deg F. I used to use teflon tape until I got ahold of the Loc***e PST.
