  1. And NO front brakes

  2. I thought this was a new thread until I looked at the date on the original.Thought I'd throw in the pic of the track nose Deuce as it looked in 1969 or 70.Taken at the sears parking lot in Saugus Massachusetts.Early Olds engine if I remember correctly.Nice car and I think it is still in Massachusetts.

Damn nice to see all those pics from Ft. Fisher! My dad and I would drive in from Stephenville and go to the rod run and the street mini-nats every year. Dad had the coral/gray 55 2dr sedan, his buddies have a turquoise '56 stepside with the camaro front clip and cragars and a white 56 cameo with cragars...in case you remember seeing us parked up on the hill, across the road from the graveyard...trying to stay in the shade.

Great thread, brings up many memories of awesome weekends in Waco.

Here's a pic of what mine looked like in the '70's. Does anyone from the Tulsa area remember it ? I'd like some history on it if possible. It's the only pic I have. thanks. These pics are great. thanks for posting.

  11. The first hot rod I ever saw in a magazine that I liked (I was taken by Porsche turbos back then) was a black '27 Chevy coupe with supremes and blackwalls, the rear center caps were missing. I have no idea what magazine it was in, except that it had to be pre '77 because I remember being in the basement reading the magazine. I did a quick photochop on one I found on Carnut to look similar.

Photo #10 is Dave Conradof Kirkwood,Mo.This car was sold but he currently has a 32 hiboy,500in Cad powered beauty. The yellow car behind is DON WARD. He still has this car[rode in it couple weeks ago] and is preparing to go to L A for the 75 top druces. They call it the Kessler Car but Don has owned it since72.

I think this is the Merc that still belongs to Wichita Car Club the Fundamentals, member Mike Behrendt......he still owns the car and it remains unchopped.... Mike was a HUGE influence on me as a kid .... He was a freelance artist who did all the club member's show cards as well as illustrations of hot rods......

I think this might also be a former Fundamentals member, Mike White's Merc.....this car was also in attendance at the first KKOA Leadsled show in Wichita........ Mike, sadly, passed away some years ago........but I still remember him treating me cool even though I was a greasy kid.........I actually attended that show in Tulsa...... I rode in my uncle's 56 Chevrolet hdtp......I still have the participant's button that my uncle gave me somewhere....... there are also a lot of early 70's carshow pics on Carnut.com..........Thanks for the reminiscing Brian!......

The guy that built this car was at the "Gathering of the Faithful" in Marion, MA in October. He was driving a Model A PU with a flathead. He had a photo album with pictures of that track roadster from when he was building it and also from the nationals.
John Freeman from Norton, MA has had it for over ten years.

I don't remember who owned the first one...I definitely know who owns the second one...that's Vol & Beverly Smart's roadster. They drive still drive it when they aren't driving their Deuce 3-Window, '40 Coupe, '46 Convert, '56 3100 truck, or the almost complete '36 3-Window. All steel cars, all running and all of them still make them smile. That's Vol in the cowboy hat talking to longtime friend Charlie Mills. Both of these guys would go to rod runs with my dad back in the 70s & 80s. You might remember Vol's maroon '32 five-window with black fenders. I remember Charlie having a brown 30's coupe but I can't remember the year and make. I'm thinking it was a Chevy or Pontiac. Both great guys and real Hot Rodder's.
