Help a guy out here, I'm having a hard time finding what I'm looking for, even though they're everywhere. I'm looking for a repro model A front crossmember that's original style. Doesn't have to be exact, but can't be tubular steel either. Every used one I find has stress cracks, and am not too cool on building around a stress cracked piece and chasing small fractures for the life of the frame. So now looking around and see all kinds of crossmembers like this in various people's reproduction frames. But no repro crossmembers seperately. Only one I have found advertised is speedway, and it's a lowering crossmember, but I need something closer to stock height. So if you can point me in a direction here, that would be great. If you could provide commentary on a specific maker's metal thickness or overall quality, that would also be cool. Thanks for readin!
I sell the CE crossmember a**** others. I like it best because it can be used in a stock frame. Not only a boxed frame like others. Stay away from the Speedway one it's junk. .02
Deuce factory piece looks like a decent part, 3/16 thickness. Price is right at $75 http://www.deucefactory.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=60
CE = Ch***is Engineering. Duece factory, thats the standard short one.Boxed frame only. CE,is $75.00 and about $12.00 shipping in the USA.f.y.i.
is this a stock height application or will it lower the front end? how much can you lower the front by modifying the crossmember without having to notch the frame rails for spring clearence?
It's a copy of the Model A. Will not lower a Model A frame Will lower a 32 frame. Won't need to notch. Can go with a flat style A cross member $99.95 but you will need to notch. Does that help?
Does the CE "A" crossmember have the 7 degree caster built into it, or do you have to weld it in at an angle in the frame to get the proper caster?
Wow, small world. I just found Riley's last night googling and had no idea it was Eric from this thread/board. Seymour, you're totally right too, he gave me a well thought out response to my stupid questions about a complete front-end kit. Thanks Eric. For what it's worth I bought a Ch***is Engineering crossmember this morning. Will be using rectangular tubing for side rails so original side rail fit was not a selling point. Got to talking with the CE tech guy, and he mentioned their crossmembers are made by the deuce factory. Didn't say if it's the same, or if it's made to CE spec. Interesting though.
