http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=138897&highlight=235+pictures the search feature is your friend. Its the canister lookin deal with a slightly pointed cap with the bolt in the middle third post down has a great pic of one.
Try this link and getcha one or do as i did and upgrade to a newer 250 sixer http://www.thenightprowlers.com/
everything you could ever want will be for sale on ebay sooner or later. or you could post a "wanted" ad here on the HAMB. this place is crawling with people who have chevy sixes. I've had a few myself.
Even the canister filter wasn't full flow, so really it doesn't do much. Just change the oil every 3k and roll..... Or do the full flow conversion...http://www.inliners.org/ go to tech tips and check the full flow conversion...
Thanks ZMAN in the future i'm going to change the power trane, so i'll stay on top of the oil change. ANDY
chevy recommended changing the oil every 1000 miles back then. You know, the really wierd thing is that these old engines lasted a long time without a filter! makes you wonder, eh? maybe you don't need one so bad after all
I got one from FLAT-TOP BOB here on the hamb, try sending him a PM maybe he's got some more, then you can have some lines made at your parts store. One line goes in where your sending unit goes, and the other on the p***. side of the block, about in the middle, below the valve cover. It should have a small square headed plug,I'm guessing about 1/4 inch.
The byp*** oil filter was about as effective as having no filter. Change the oil every 1K and you'll be sweet.
go to inliners.org or stovebolt.com looked at article on remote oil filter for 235 yesterday, ton of great pic's!
Filters are over rated I've got a pair of magents stuck to the oil pan right next to the drain plug. I pull the plug, then pull the magnets, anything stuck there gets drained out. (As a side note, air cooled VWs didn't have factory oil filters up until the early 90s.)
limited oil pressure to get the oil around kinda depends on gravity to circulate just look at the stick and change often remember you have babbit bearings .... synthetic anyone ? i did amzoil and consumption is down just costs more now to change/add in my 50 chev sd newer filterkits are availible from fram /napa used on tractors and the like ....smaller ez mount cannister than old stockers use flex hose from grease guns paperdog
What a nasty mess. I'd just change my oil every 1000 miles, if I was that worried I do the magnet trick, but I can't be bothered to get past that filter element. I'm getting crabby in my old age.
