    Jimmy B -

    Great stuff!

Thanks especially for adding all the background material - and to the others who took time to contribute. Talk about "keeping it real" - these are the cars, people, and stories that make our "traditional theme something really meaningful.

Doe's anyone else think its time to start a "Historical" archive here on the HAMB?.

  5. Nice job, you didn't overdo it.

BTW, I hate the Wizard of Oz, it ruined Kansas in the minds of good people everywhere. Of couse the author was from the Dakotas and was too embarassed to use his own state.

  6. No worries Chris! If you could scan the article in a higher resolution that would be great.

4ever4, the blue 557 T roadster is the car Curt Giovanine built with his dad Bob in the early 90s, motor is a 1925 Chev, I don't know if it is the same block as the original but Curt did buy a few blocks and various parts off Duane Steele in '89. Curt Machined the head out of a chunk of Aluminium it has 4 exhaust ports (middle 2 stacked on top of each other) and 4 inlet ports. Body on the new car is a fibreglass T and the skirt around the bottom was designed and built by Bob Rufi.

stan292, thank you! There aren't many people still around who know how to build a fire breathing Chev 4 I hope this post gets a few people interested in them. It is surprising how many cars back then were built with Chev 4s we need to even up the playing field with the Ford boys! One advantage is parts are relatively cheap compared to Fords :D
A historical archive sounds like a really good idea

mrpontiac, Cheers! The Wizard of Oz scared the shit out of me when I was a kid!  I hate it too!
    Cheers

The Wizard of Oz is still a hit at my house. My 5 yr old watched it on monday!!

    bitchin thread.

you just gotta love the old stuff don't ya?? I had to tell a local sheep rodder that he just doesn't get it, when he told me to dice the "old Boat Anchor" referrng to the Stovebolt 6 in my coupe.

  8. Bump!
It's funny I was scared of The Wizard of Oz but the Return to Oz movie I liked even though it was scary to a whipper snapper

Yup you sure do! If I want power windows, Aircon, Power Steering, etc, etc I will buy a modern car. Hot rods are bare bones and built for speed :D
    Cheers

    cool shit jamie,

if this doesnt give you enthusiasm nothing will.

I would print out that coloured pic you did and hang it on the shed wall above the car, best inspiration you can have.

  11. Not wrong!

I plan too, but my printer decided it didn't have enough ink to print  So I may have the cartridges refilled this week. The coloured image is my desktop picture at the moment.

I bought a few essential parts today, these include a boot lid, torque tube, propeller shaft, generator & starter motor.
Realistically fab work won't start for a month or two. :(
    Cheers

  12. Sorry for dredging this back up but The Duane Steele car was a Ford T roadster (not a '25 Chev roadster). Duane powered his roadster with the engine he bought from Bob Giovanine which powered the Giovanine/Spurgin '25 Chev roadster, Chuck Spurgin sold his roadster around '54 to Carl Borgh.

    Cheers

I kinda see a '25 T Ford coupe (cut down) in the early photos. It's prob a Chevy though. I really haven't seen too many early Chevs. The photos from ''94 are of a '26-'27 Ford roadster.

    Hey Jamie,
Great thread. I havent heard from you lately and I've been super busy at work. Just started digitizing some of the videos I took getting the 557 roadster running. I'll send you a DVD when I get them finished. May be a couple of months yet. Keep up the good work. You're motivation for me to get the roadster running again. My niece, one of Bob's grandaughters, wants to drive it at Bonneville.

  15. G'day Curt, so good to see you signed up! I have been a bit busy also. I would love to hear and see video of the 557 roadster.

Funny, you have been a great motivation for me to get into building my roadster!:D I channelled the cowling yesterday and I need to notch the 1/4 to clear the diff this week.

That is great your niece wants to run the roadster, that makes 3 generations at Bonneville?
    Cheers
